Helping out in our small volunteer based charity organization is very rewarding, but can be challenging both physically and mentally. With that being said – you can learn so much personally and professionally during your time here! You'll be having fun with all the animals and other volunteers, in addition to living on beautiful Koh Samui, experiencing Thai culture and food at its best.

What else...

We are looking for hardworking, trustworthy and enthusiastic people - this experience is like no other, you will surely fall in love with our little piece of animal heaven!

GENERAL VOLUNTEER TASKS

The full timetable that all the volunteers follow can be a little tiring in the beginning, but it will get easier. Depending on the morning shift or afternoon shift, these are some of the tasks:

General cleaning tasks like f.e. sweeping/mopping/tidying up the areas, washing laundry, dishes and bowls and of course poo scooping

We provide our dogs fresh food (incl. fish and meat), which means cooking every second day

Feeding dogs and cats

Walking the dogs in different groups, no leashes involved - they get to run completely free in the jungle!

Socializing with the animals, incl. giving good-night-cookies :)

Monitoring the health of our dogs and cats, incl. bathing dogs with skin problems and giving necessary meds to them

Helping with the groceries for the animals approximately every 2-3 weeks

You might be asked to do other tasks if necessary, like Social Media, little repairs, gardening etc.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Animal lovers - as living with animals always brings surprises and things can happen at any time, I do need to be able to count on you in case of emergency, even during your free time.

We need your commitment - short-notice cancellations and people that are leaving earlier than planned are putting us in a very hard position. If you plan on just coming for volunteering, consider some days before and/or after for traveling/sightseeing only, so you won’t have to change dates once you are here! Also, if you fly directly from f.e. Europe or the US, you might need some resting time before starting.

We will prioritize long-term volunteers with a minimum commitment of 2-3 months and 25+ years old (but depends on motivation, work experience and urgency)

High level of spoken English, French or Dutch

Previous experience in Thailand/SEA beneficial

Lots of common sense!!

Be adventurous, able to work unsupervised, self-motivated and easy-going, while also being a team player

ACCOMMODATION

Accommodation will vary depending on the length of your stay.

You will live in a basic Thai style accommodation - it is comfortable, but not western style

You will share your room, bathroom, kitchen and living area with other volunteers

The kitchen includes a hob and fridge

Within walking and driving distance of the sanctuary and only a 10-15 minute walk to the beach

Bed linen is provided, but please bring your towels

You will be part of the Thai community, please share and respect their lifestyle

You will take your share in cleaning after yourself (not just your own room!)

If you feel that you need a higher standard accommodation, you are of course welcome to do this at your own expense. Please just let us know in advance.

FOOD

Drinking water is provided at the sanctuary during your working hours. All of our income is entirely dependent on donations, so we are not able to offer any food. You are more than welcome to use the kitchen facilities for self-catering, but it is also cheap to eat out at local restaurants.

ADDITIONAL INFO

Please keep in mind that we are not a shelter, which focuses on a high turnover of animals through adoptions. At our sanctuary, we want to provide animals a safe home for the rest of their lives – those who have had a tough life before coming to us.

Arrive in clothes ready to get dirty ;)

We don't have Wifi, but cheap SIM cards incl. internet data can be bought at many different places.

Even though we're located away from the touristy places, prices (f.e. international restaurants, taxis) may be higher than in other parts of Thailand.

There are motorbikes for rent in the area & in Lamai, so you can easily discover the island during your free time. A license from your home country is required for your insurance to cover an accident/hospitalization.

Koh Samui is an exciting island that has a lot to offer: waterfalls, yoga retreats, Muay Thai and fitness gyms, late night markets, Thai cooking classes, kite boarding schools, snorkelling trips and boat trips to the five islands.

As we are a non-profit organization, we are not a place to turn to if you have run out of money and therefore need free accommodation, or if you like to party a lot.
