We are a former dairy farm located in the Western Foothills of New York's Catskill Mountains. The farm is home to 3 historic buildings which are now the residence, studio, workshop, and gallery/store of two artists formerly of East Williamsburg in Brooklyn, NY.

Turquoise Barn is a vegetarian, vegan, live & raw food Bed & Breakfast/Retreat with rooms available to rent.We have a hostel in one of our barns for travelers looking for an inexpensive and relaxing getaway. Camping is also available on the property.

Botanical culinary workshops (vegan, raw & living food prep), garden tours, wild edible ID walks, art workshops, and all inclusive learning retreats are also offered for individuals or groups.

We have organic vegetable, herb & flower gardens, chickens, and a small apple orchard which we expand and develop each year. There is also a woodshop/studio and a gallery where we sell our furniture, jewelry and art produced by us. In addition, we sell local products (maple syrup, honey, beeswax candles) and have a small seasonal farm stand next to the gallery. Periodically events are held in the gallery, such as music, movies & openings.

Our long term plan is to convert our historic farm through restoration and preservation, into a reserved destination that involves creative arts, events, education, short term stays, and organic cultivation centered on appreciating a sustained natural environment. We are dedicated to natural living and the preservation of agriculture in the local community.

This year 2013 we are expanding our accommodations in the B&B. A greenhouse is also in the plans for this spring.

We are looking for hard working individuals to help with a variety of tasks including planting, harvesting, maintenance of gardens, help in setting up and running the store/farmstand,administrative work, B&B, kitchen help with classes/retreats.

Participation with everyday chores including food prep, cleaning, etc., is also expected in addition to hours worked. Working hours will be varied between 6-8 hours/day depending on what tasks need to be done. We are open to people of various backgrounds and the type of work will be dependent on the individual. We are looking for individuals who are motivated, willing and comfortable working on a variety of tasks. Time needed March – November.

Also looking for someone with experience & capable of overseeing & training other volunteers w/gardening – which will include preparing beds, planting, weeding, watering, harvesting, & setting up the farmstand.

Accommodations are in our hostel or camping with use of bathroom & kitchen (in hostel).

A car would be helpful but not necessary as we are willing to pick-up and drop off. Some food when available from the gardens and meals (vegetarian) may be provided based on number of hours worked. Volunteers also have the opportunity to order wholesale from our suppliers for extra produce, bulk items and specialty vegan & raw food items.

For more information about our farm and what we do visit our website.

In addition to email background information, we require a phone interview with all volunteers.
