To You, The Aimless Nomad.

You have found haven, you have found Store Okseoe.

Reaching from beneath the seas off the southernmost coast of Denmark is an island, the larger of a pair, where there is an experience to be had, if youíll have it.

Marked by wind-scarred cliffs, beaches of pebbled sand, and forsaken sunken ships, Store Okseoe is the preferred local retreat from the modern hustle of northern German society. Here, dreary car horns are traded for gull crows, and the 'neccesary' liter of gasoline is passed up for the neccesary pint of Danish beer.

By day, the residents of this protected nature reserve work hard for a standard 30 hours a week at keeping visitorsí hunger fed, and thirst quenched, but this is not to say that resturaunt work is the only kind offerered here on the island. Farmwork, landscaping, and shipbuilding are year round jobs, but summer is primarily gastronomically oriented. What remains constant here, however, is that each night these same helping hands are encouraged to relax and remember that they did not come traveling only to work but to enjoy and LIVE.

Some skeptics may be curious as to what 'living' consists of. 'living' consists of, but is not limited to:

-Music. Music is inarguably the most important cultural aspect of Store Okseoe and its residents. Rudiger(owner) is not only an active listener of but also an accomplished Folk guitarist. For this reason, the island is frequented by live bands that play in an old shipyard that has been restored and molded into a concert venue. Rudigerís affinity for music has also resulted in the establishment of a small library of instruments that residents are warmly encouraged to play, or learn to play. Mandolins and an accordion are just highlights.

-Soaking your limbs in the surprisingly temperate Baltic waters.

-Traversing(or laying down in) the forest, meadows, and beaches of Store Okseoe and observing, petting, or laughing at the numerous animals living in said locations. Animals include a donkey, pony, older dog, puppy, older cat, kitten, sheep, and numerous local birds(some of which are protected wildlife).

-It is understood that the constant sound of lapping waves and guitar strumming may be too peaceful for some people, and therefore may lead to urges for a taste of stronger revelries. Flensburg right across the German border and Sonderborg here in Denmark are perfect answers for the release of these 'Heathen Demons.' You can take the islandís own ferry directly to the bus stop. Yes, the island has its own ferry.

-The island also has things for the techno savy as well. Rudiger and Bettina have a LARGE collection of DVDs in both German and English, as well as two current issue Apple computers with Photoshop, and WiFi for those of you with your own devices.

-It should go without saying that in order to work well, a helper must be provided for well. For this reason residents can expect to have three meals a day, shower/bath, and space in the flat adjacent to Rudiger and Bettina's house.

More info about Store Okseoe:
Permanent residents on the island are Ruediger, the architect and chef, and Bettina, the artist, who are married. There is also Oli, the ferry captain and master shipsman, and Christa, the 'Grandma of the Island.' However, Bettina and Ruediger have a number of friends who are constantly traveling to the island, so it is always a social atmosphere.
