Our family of five lives on a 10 acre lifestyle block 25 minutes south of Christchurch on the way to Akaroa. We grow our own vegetables, fruit and animals on the farm, and usually cut the larger paddocks for hay. We enjoy getting outdoors as much as possible and are keen bikers, skiiers and climbers. The size of the property means there is always a lot to do so we are grateful for the time and energy our helpers give to us.

We offer free self-catering accommodation in our fully self-contained one bedroomed flat, plus use of bikes, swimming pool and unlimited wireless internet in exchange for 4 hours labour per day. You can also help yourself to whatever is in season - vegetables, eggs, grapefruit, figs, pears, plums, feijoas, rhubarb etc. Work includes light farm duties and gardening and is suitable for those with no farm experience. Typical jobs include tending the vegetable patch, weeding, mowing the lawns and pruning trees and bushes.

For those of you concerned about the impact your trip has on the environment we can offer you the opportunity to plant a native tree on our property to help offset your carbon footprint.

There are plenty of activities in the local area e.g. walking or cycling in the Port Hills, birdwatching on the lake, sitting in the gardens of the nearby cafes soaking up the sun, or heading to Akaroa to swim with dolphins. You are welcome sit by the pool or to borrow a bicycle and explore the local area - our house is right beside the Rail Trail that runs to Little River. Alternatively you can just hang out on the farm with the animals and our friendly cat. Come and experience rural New Zealand in our little idyll.
