We (Joep & Miranda) offer a wonderful place for helpers in the sunny South of France.
We take pride in continuously improving our domaine and every year there are new projects to tackle. Two years ago we finalised the renovation of the old barn of the domaine and with help of a lot of friends and a great helper, we realised three brand new holiday accommodations for our guests. Last year the pool area got completely renovated with the help of 3 great helpers.
This year we are focusing on a full renovation of our own house as well as work in our garden and general maintenance of the domaine. We are now looking for one or two additional people to help with our building/ renovation project. We are especially interested in people who are looking to stay for a longer period of time, but can also use help for shorter periods of time. You would assist with re-building outside and in-side walls, placing of doors and windows, plumbing, plastering, painting, tiling, fitting of kitchen and bathrooms and putting in a underfloor heating system running on solar power and wood.
Your stay at our domaine is a discovery, a learning opportunity and a way to voluntarily and freely participate in our daily activities. We cannot wait to share our world with you and give you the opportunity to experience what it is like to live abroad and live your dream.
We started our French adventure in the beginning of 2011 and can share what we learned from this experience with those who might want to start a similar activity abroad.
We also offer the opportunity to learn new skills, practice foreign languages (we speak Dutch, German, English and French) and meet lots of new people.
We'll introduce you to the local cuisine, the cultural gems of the region as well as the stunning country side.
A bit more about us:
We are originally from the Netherlands and have lived in Belgium for 7 years, before relocating to France, where we started our French adventure the beginning of 2011.
Joep is originally from Nijmegen in the Netherlands and loves traveling all over the world.
On those trips he experienced great food and has been inspired by the many local cuisines. Joep is a wine specialist and great cook. He will introduce you to the many culinary delights the Languedoc-Rousillion region has to offer. Joep takes care of all the cooking, maintenance and building tasks at the domaine.
Miranda has been working (and still works) in the hotel, meetings & events industry for over 15 years, and has accumulated a great understanding of service and the very best in hospitality. She has travelled all over the world and has gained vast understanding of and respect for many different cultures. She loves to travel and and meeting people all over the world
She will give you tips on the hidden gems, areas to visit - on and off the beaten track. Miranda still works full time and in addition she takes care of the reservations and marketing for the holiday houses.
We live at the domaine with our 3 cats and super sweet Golden Retriever Oscar. We also are bee keepers, so if you are interested to learn more about bees, then this is your chance.
You would stay in one of our five gites during your stay with us (a gite is a a fully equipped holiday house with your own bedroom, bathroom, living room with TV, terrace and entrance). It is possible that you have this gite entirely for yourself or that you share the gite with other helpers. You would ALWAYS have your own bedroom. The gites have their own bathrooms, kitchen, living room, wifi and terraces.
As we rent out our accommodation year round to holiday guests, we might ask you to switch accommodation once in a while or stay in our spare bedroom for a weekend or a week in case all gites get rented. This would be very exceptional though.
We are located in a typical French village near Carcassonne, in the area of Languedoc-Roussillon in the sunny South of France.
This area, also called the Cathar country, is a warm and inviting place, with a unique heritage - castles, wonderful and friendly locals who love to celebrate and share their culture.
Hills, mountains, rivers, lakes and typical French villages - You can do many outdoor sporting activities, mountain biking, cycling, hiking, white water canoeing, rafting, swimming, fishing, boating, caving, skiing, wind surfing , catamaran sailing, horse riding, tennis, golf and much more.
The property is surrounded by sunflower fields, vineyards and olive groves. There are no busy roads which run along the domain and there is plenty of room to enjoy the outdoors and relax.
Nearby, there is lots to see and do. The city of Carcassonne, the largest castle in Europe, is just a stones throw away. Near to Carcassonne there is also a lake and a nice sandy beach.
We love eating and drinking! This area has amazing restaurants, vineyards to enjoy a glass of wine and great markets. Relax with a coffee or enjoy a cosy picnic along the Canal du Midi is a must!
Easily accessible by car, air and train. A car is recommended to make the most of your stay within the region but we do have a bicycle available, which is available for your use.
