Traditional Spanish finca in southern Andalucia. We are offering comfortable double room accommodation and meals, in return for help with outdoor work. A small modern villa fitted out in C21st North European style, nestles at the base of an arroyo, in an exotic courtyard garden. The land faces SW, rising in steep terraces of olives, avocadoes, almonds and other fruit trees, interspersed with architectural and xeriscape planting.

Olives are harvested annually for oil, and sweet Marcona almonds have been planted this year. Plans are in progress to train and improve other fruit tree output. This winter we will improve water management and access paths, and to introduce softer garden elements to a grove of mature olive trees. We seek help between January and March 2018 (week by week) with: hard landscaping, creating and planting beds, laying paths, etc. This is a chance to learn about land and water management on a Mediterranean smallholding, and about gardening in a working olive grove.

Los Guajares is a mountainous, subtropical valley, just 15-20 minutes from several Costa Tropical beaches and resorts, 50 minutes from Granada city and the Alhambra Palace world heritage site, and an hour from the white Moorish villages of La Alpujarras. Nearby Guajar Faraguit has a small supermarket, pharmacy, post office, bar and estanco, 5 minutes drive away. For skiers, the Sierra Nevada ski resort near Granada is one hours' drive.
