We are Meroline and Samuel age 35 and 50 years respectively residents of Mfangano Island In Lake Victoria Kenya, Iím a woman with a small family married to Samuel and together we are blessed with four children.

Mfangano is an Island within Lake Victoria in the western part of Kenya adjacent to three sister Islands that is Takawiri, Remba and Ringiti, the main activities within and around the Island are fishing and farming.

Most people living in Mfangano and sister Islands are the Abasuba group from Suba tribe and a few fishermen from the Luo community, Ugandans and Tanzanians

There are several interesting areas in the Island to visit and view, (Mfangano Rock Art, Mfangano Peace museum, Mfangano Plateau, the cool breeze and view of Lake Victoria, Tilapia fish ponds).

During free time volunteers can climb our mountains, Visit and refresh in beach clubs around, stroll around in our shopping centres, watch local live football matches and even view international screen football matches in our local social halls, they can as well go swimming practically in lake Victoria which is a distance of only 300 meters from our family home, they can also visit their friends around.

There are lots of legends and memorized stories of all our cultural livings and styles from the time of our great grandparents and how they have changed with time from community story tellers. Through this they will grasp our customs and cultural behaviour.

they will get live there and then our living styles, our traditional and cultural methods of of doing all our activities.

Volunteers will also learn our organic methods of farming, they will visit and see different local fishing industries and learn our local methods of fishing, and they will learn our ways of preparing different food staffs and those with interest will gain by interacting with the community and learning our local languages that is Swahili, Luo and Suba.

We live along the main Mfangano Ring road, we are not far from shopping centers, we have very sharp free Internet from an NGO just within just a walking distance of two minutes.

Tasks expected by volunteers during their stay with us are:-

Home asigned duties, Farm work, fishing, education issues, and groupís empowerment.

Support the Mfangano Island Organic and perm-culture farmers through manual work, sharing skills, identifying grant funding opportunities and help in contacting them.

Volunteer are expected to take only three to five hours at work for three or five days in a week he or she has the freedom to choose where and when to do and when not to do a task.

There are many means of transport available to travel from one location to the other and even out of the Island.

The Volunteer will be served with three meals a day by hosting family;
We serve; farm foods like potatoes, beans, green-grams, cassava, maize, bananas, and local vegetables. We also serve beef, Milk, Chicken, several species of fish found in Lake Victoria, Irish-potatoes, Chapati, Mandazi, ugali and porridge. Since most of these food staffs are from shops and or local market, and in addition to normal expences of condiments, meals preparation, boarding linens wahing and eletricity, we expect a Volunteer to support the program by contributing only five Euro or six dollars per day for the upkeep, the rest of the cost we will manage as usual.

There are enough accommodation facilities, both private and spacious rooms to share for same gender with well-spread and knit looking beds of which each should have a mosquito net.
