We are living here on a beautiful old farm estate in south/central Finland on the shores of Näsijärvi, about 3 hours from Helsinki and 1 hour from Tampere by car. The farm nowadays is purely arable, so no livestock related work is done here.

The daily farm work for us actually consists mostly of chores and maintenance work on the buildings and gardens, as most of the field work is contracted. Grass cutting, weed whacking, painting buildings, pruning trees, doing small renovations indoors and such are the normal jobs in the summer months. We also run a small fish hatchery and a small-scale sawmill.

I, Laura, currently live in Tampere with my husband Keith (from Scotland) and our dog Dexter, but we visit the farm most weekends. During the summer at least I will be mostly on the farm. My parents and grandparents live on the farm permanently. However, as the farm yard is quite large with a lot of maintenance work needing done, we are struggling to keep up with everything by ourselves.

We are looking for nice, helpful, trustworthy volunteers to come and stay with us during the summer and help with these jobs. THE TIME WHEN WE ARE AVAILABLE TO HOST IS 12th JUNE - 12th JULY 2020. We would ask for 4 hours of help per day in exchange for accommodation and all meals.

We would be delighted to show you the best parts of our town Ruovesi, which has a couple of lovely national parks with nice walks/hikes and the lake Näsijärvi with many possibilities for water sports. Of course we would also provide you with a true Finnish sauna experience :) We have a canoe and a rowing boat that you are free to use. Fishing can be done either by the lake Näsijärvi, or if you want, you can come along to our fish hatchery.

Tampere, the nearest city, is about 1-1.5hrs away by bus.

For your sake it really would be best if you had your own transportation, however we can arrange to pick you up from Jäminkipohja bus stop/Orivesi train station if necessary.

We will provide you with a healthy diet including game meat shot by yours truly and my family. We do ask that if you have a very strict diet, you are prepared to make some adjustments during your time here, as we will not necessarily be able to cater to everything - our local shops are quite small :)

We also ask you to absolutely not smoke indoors, and only put cigarette butts into designated, fire-safe containers. We will also always be in charge of heating the sauna, and no outdoor fires will be allowed unless we are also present for it. Forest fires are a real threat in Finland too!
