We are a couple in our late 50's who own a flower farm! My husband Tim farms 315 acres of corn and soybeans and I (Julie) have my own flower farm at the house where I grow flowers outside and in a greenhouse to sell at farmers markets, weddings, and other local events. We also host events at the farm where I teach flower workshops, have people come and pick their own flowers, and we even had hundreds of people come out for a bluegrass concert at the farm this summer! As you can imagine there is a lot of hard work to be done pulling weeds, planting bulbs, digging up bulbs at the end of the year, cutting flowers to make arrangements, and general maintenance on the farm. The farm is absolutely beautiful and you will get to experience midwest small town America! You would have your own bedroom and bathroom and would be expected to work roughly 20 hours a week and you would have plenty of time off to explore the area. We do many weekend events and the market is on saturday so you would likely be working saturday mornings most weeks but the rest of the schedule could be pretty flexible. You can stay for a couple weeks or longer if we get along and you like the work! We have extra bicycles that you can ride around the countryside or ride into Richmond on a bike trail which is only about 11 miles. You are also more than welcome to come to our local church with us as well. Or if you don't want to attend that is fine as well! The town of Richmond is about 15 minutes away and is where the closest grocery store is located. Check us out on facebook at 'The Barn at Helm' or on instagram at thebarnathelm. Contact us if you have any specific questions.
