Our lodge is located in a valley (Vale of Avoca), in the middle of a woodland area. The site is 2 acres in total and in need of some attention: wood to gather, to cut, to tidy, weeding, planting, pruning... There are lots of ruins at the back of the house, they used to be outbuildings for the Mine Office (Gold and Copper Mines were in activity in the area until the 1960's) We arrived here 6 years ago. The major project we have undertook so far is the complete renovation of our house (2 centuries old)with original material (mostly lime) and a wooden extension . We are now tackling phase 2 of our project which is polytunnel, animals, orchard, veg, etc. We are managing the land organically, it is a mature land. We are a family of 5, the children are aged 16, 9 and 7. John (my partner) is working away most of the week and I am a part time forager for a local restaurant (picking wild food and making preserves, yum!). The rest of the time I am at home, taking care of the house, the garden, and the children of course. John is Irish and I am French, we are a bilingual family. We need help outside but also inside, to help for the meals, the children, the house, the pets (a dog a cat and a cockatiel, hens) etc. We love meeting new people and share our interests. Here you will learn about wood, chickens, growing food, cooking. Accommodation for helpers is in a caravan, big enough for 2 people to have their own end and be comfortable. Cheers!
