Dia dhuit,

We are a family of four 2 adult/2 children living in the North West of Ireland. Throughout the year we have numerous projects that we welcome helpers for.

In 2012, along with the help of friends, family and volunteers we built our Roundhouse center (see video below). It is here in the Round we hold our West African percussion classs and retreats over the year. There are always jobs to be done in maintaining and adding to the use of the center.

At the moment our main focus is working on our home which is on the same site as the Roundhouse. The house was started eight years ago its design is a traditional type bungalow, with blocks and slate roof. Since begining this house our thoughts and ideas of building/living have changed alot and so the work on the house is that of redesign, strawbale interior walls, earthen plaster, natural wood interior and cedarwood cladding exterior.

We hold weekly and monthly class's with the drumming and every six weeks or so we have longer gatherings from one-day workshops to 4-day campouts on the same site (see website). So helping lugging djembe drums around is part of the stay ;). We jointly organise an annual festival locally each August called The Secret Village, Arts, Roots and Grooves Fest which is situated in a reclaimed woods outside a local town and involves lots of preparation

We also have a little veg garden and couple hens to look after.

Helpers coming to stay with us will have the opportunity to learn some of the simple skills of building with natural materials, tree felling work, natural timber working, small animal tending and how to play west african djembe and dununs.

Accomodation is in a caravan close to the house we now live in. In summer months accom is sometimes camping. Campsite will be over looking the loughs of gara.

During your stay you will be shown some of the local sites lakes,, forts and will be part of the family here and also part of the drumming community who gather regular. Its quite a laid back post but everyone expected to do there share.

At the moment we are looking for helpers (2 at a time) to join us from mid Feb onward

This here is a video of the Roundhouse build in 2012

Look forward to hearing from you
Le gra
