My name is Aziz, I'm 36 years old, and have been a farmer for over 25 years in Morocco. I'm beginning the switch from conventional farming to organic farming, looking to begin to sustainably harvest my crops of sugar beets, wheat, beans, olive trees, grass for the animals, and some other vegetables. I have a 3 hectare farm myself, however there are amble opportunities to work with other farmers in the community looking to begin organic agriculture. I speak Arabic, English, French fluently and small amounts of Spanish / German. I have 10 years of experience working with the Peace Corps and international volunteer programs. I've also spent three years traveling here in Africa to other countries in Europe to see other cultures.

My transition to organic farming is in the beginning stages. The first step is rebuilding the soil, therefore I'm looking for volunteers with experience in compost making (hot compost, cold compost, etc). Or, people who are willing to do the research to start the ongoing process of switching from conventional farming to organic farming. I'm currently experimenting with 18 day hot compost methods. There is also an opportunity to help out the local cooperative of women to grain cous cous, berkookch, and family candies. In addition, if the outdoors are of particular interest to the guest, Aziz will lead day trips into the mountains for hiking and biking or to the mountain lake for swimming and fishing,. If these projects are successful, I hope to expand it to many other farmers in my community.

I appreciate volunteers who are culturally sensitive to traditions in small Moroccan villages. I ask for a commitment of one week, however longer stays are happily accepted. the weekly schedule is flexible with free weekends. Volunteers have a room with blankets and there is hammam, electricity, squat toilet, and kitchen on the property. Also, very close in the neighborhood is access to internet, transportation, and small shops. There will be plenty of time for cultural exchange; I'm happy to introduce volunteers to the village to experience the traditional Moroccan celebrations, local food-making techniques, and the incredible landscapes of the nearby Atlas Mountains. If you're looking for a slice of real Moroccan life, away from the hustle and bustle of larger cities like Rabat or Marrakech, consider a trip to aziz s village where you can step back, relax, breathe the fresh air, and take in the gorgeous scenery.
