We are a family of 4- mom, dad 12 year-old boy and Granny with 3 dogs, 3 cats and a lot of chickens! We have started from scratch as there were no buildings and no grid power. We are building our own steel-framed, straw bale house with all means of alternative power. Our long-term goal is to be self-sustaining. We would like short-term help with renovating our old caravan, clearing fire breaks and clay plastering.
Being a farm, there are many other things which need doing like repairing fencing, animal care, path making etc. We have a small timber cabin with a comfy queen bed with linen provided.
At present there are shared ablutions with the family while we finish our house.
We provide a weekly box of mostly dry foods, with eggs from our hens , some fresh veg from our garden and dairy bought in. There is a shipping container which is the living area and has a kitchen to prepare your meals. You can bring anything not on the food list we provide. There is no fridge- just a cold box. We offer some lessons on solar cooking.
We would prefer 24 + aged volunteers who can work on their own if needed. People looking for a real taste of self- sustainability will have a good time here. As we are fairly remote, couples or friends together work well. We enjoy working hard and like to laugh and have fun doing it. Volunteers work with us approx 5 days each week and helping to maintain the living areas whenever its needed.
Our closest major town is Gansbaai (30 minutes) from which we can collect you.

There is never a dull moment around here.
The most important qualities we look for in volunteers is positive enthusiasm. Skills are good but we can`t teach a positive attitude. You do need to be physically fit too.
Please email us if you are keen to come and play or would like more information.
