We have volunteers here at the moment who have been with us since the beginning of the lock down in Portugal. We are open to having conversations with people who have already been in Portugal since early March.

We love hosting volunteers here and enjoy sharing our simple way of life.

We are a project based on permaculture ethics and principles. Our interest is in growing towards a way of being that is gentle on nature, animals and humans. We have been here for over 14 years.

Permanent people for now are Barbara and Emma, One Portuguese, one from Northern Ireland.

It is best to check out our 'website' - and the link to this page shows our vision for the land. We are committed to the practice of Permaculture as we understand the aspects of people care, earth care and a deep regard for simple spirituality.

As far as accommodation goes, we PREFER if you bring your own tent/small camper. However we do have tents if you need one.

We have a huge pond for swimming and a paddling pool - really important as the weather heats up!

Our closest village is Povoa de Atalaia, but we are actually between Povoa and 2 ancient Roman villages called Alpedrina and Castelo Novo - with lovely views of the Gardunha Mountains.

In terms of languages spoken here - we speak Portuguese, English, a little Spanish and a little French. Mostly we converse in English or Portuguese.

We eat organic, local, seasonal - mostly vegetarian with vegan options - but warning on occasions we eat 'happy meat' - meaning something local and ideally organic. We eat well and are not really fundamentalists about food, as long as it is prepared with love!

One other thing, if you do smoke, we ask you do not do so in the common areas.

In each block of help required we have a different focus - based on the seasonal activites and the events/courses we are hosting. The blocks and what we are doing when can be located here -

25 June – 15 July

27 July – 24 August

31 August – 28 September

5 October – 15 November

You can read the full desctiption of what we ask from volunteers via this link -

Currently as it is summer our schedule is up early, work hard and then rest from 1:30pm for the rest of the day. We are seeking to have volunteers who can cope with the heat and have experience of natural building.

If you have experience of volunteering/working in in gardens/farms we would like to hear from you.

The minimum stay with us is 3 weeks in order to get the most out of a visit, and 4-6 weeks is better to get the chance to be part of the community life here.

We ask the usual 5- 6 hours a day If you are spiritually minded, you can sit with us in the silence of the morning. There are also beautiful places to practice your yoga or such practices.

We have a pond for swimming in spring/summer, a sheltered common place, a common kitchen and camping kitchen, several beautiful compost toilets, and ways to charge your electronic stuff by solar power. The land itself is off-grid.

We offer breakfast, lunch, and dinner to volunteers. For breakfast you will prepare that yourself – this includes bread, butter, muesli, oats, seasonal fruits, jams and cow’s milk. We offer delicious spring water too. Lunch we eat communally, and is prepared by one of volunteers or us. For dinner its up to the volunteers to cook for yourselves in the camping kitchen - we offer a box of goodies every week, and you prepare what you like to eat in our beautiful natural build camping kitchen. We eat together in the evenings on a Friday when we give thanks for the week!

On ‘days off’, normally Saturday and Sunday, there are lovely walks around here to enjoy. The river beach of Castelo Novo is not far.

Peace, hope and joy,

If you are interested in coming and taking part, please get in contact.
