Hello Helpers!

We are a small, family-run hostel in the world famous village of Doolin, Co. Clare. Doolin is about 5 miles from the Cliffs of Moher, a ferryport to the Aran Islands, and most notably is considered the traditional music capital of Ireland, so its an ideal stay for a musician who's looking for the chance to sit in on the nightly trad music sessions in one of several pubs just minutes' walk from the hostel. We love Irish music, play a bit, and encourage music, singing and dance sessions in the hostel common room, so bring along your instrument, your voice or just your ear to join in!

Of course we also welcome anyone who would simply appreciate Doolin's beautiful landscape, the opportunity to explore its rocky coastline, its unique flora and fauna or its archaeological monuments and ruins. Its an ideal spot for photographers, artists and birdwatchers too.

We are offering a free hostel bed and light breakfast, in exchange for 3-4 hours hostel work per day. Jobs around the hostel include making beds, cleaning (yes, including the dreaded toilets and showers!;-)) , reception work, and occasionally some outdoor maintenance work, such as grass mowing or painting.

We'd prefer someone mature, between age 20-30 yrs, who speaks English very well, who is friendly and outgoing, willing to chat with hostelers, be a part of hostel life, and contribute to a welcoming, friendly atmosphere. Preferably we are looking for individuals; we don't mind couples or pairs of helpers but please be aware that you won't always be able to take your time off together. You have the use of the kitchen to cook your own meals, laundry facilities on request, and free Wifi, with a reasonable use policy, however, PLEASE NOTE: we are looking for active, interested people who would prefer a good chat or getting out for a walk in our beautiful surroundings to spending hours on the internet!

We like helpers to stay for up to but no more than 2 weeks, as we have found that this works best for most people. However you may be asked to extend your stay at our discretion if you are happy to do so. A bit of flexibility in your time off is a requirement, but we try to be flexible too, and make sure that you have the opportunity to see and do what you'd like while you are here. The willingness to learn and pitch in is really all we ask, although prior work experience of a practical hands on nature is very useful so if you have this please tell us!

A word about our photos: all the photos shown are our own (taken by our talented daughter) and show our immediate surroundings. And yes, it really is that beautiful here! But in the interest of full disclosure ;-) we need to point out that it is true that it rains a lot in Ireland. It's very important that you have wet weather gear included in your luggage, so that you won't feel confined to staying indoors when we get that particular sort of wind-driven misty day that the west of Ireland is famous for! But don't worry, when the sun does show its face, there isn't a place in the world you'd rather be.

One or two last things to note: If you are travelling to us from a big town or city, you may like to bring with you some food staples. Shops in Doolin are small and supply basics. Occasionally we may be able to do a shopping list for you or give you a lift to our nearest town. Also, it's good to be aware that there is no cash machine in Doolin.
