Kay Garnay for Nepal is a registered NGO in Nepal, located at the edge of the Kathmandu Valley. We work for humanitarian and environmental projects, for the most part. Presently, we are focusing on our women’s work initiative.
We need people experienced in knitting and sewing who can teach the women.
We need people to help write content and help us develop a marketing strategy.
We need people who have a good understanding of social media marketing.
IT: Website design and SEO. Our websites are up, but they need some updating and editing.
Organic gardener: We hope to create a botanical walk in our village and we also want to help our local farmers to grow organically.
We need people to help build a home for one of our ladies when we sell 100 hat/glove sets. They even come in a lovely hand-loomed, 100% cotton bag.
For this really small donation for the hat sets, we can build a home after only 100 hats. Rather than build a finished home, we are laying the foundation, concrete beams with rebar to make it earthquake-safe. Then we will be installing environmentally-friendly, interlocking bricks and putting an aluminum roof. After a time, we hope these families will have the ability to put a concrete roof and build another floor. This is the way it’s usually done in Nepal, one floor at a time
Our ancient temple, the oldest Hindu temple still in use in Nepal, is one of the loveliest temples in Asia. It sits on our hilltop, which is starting to erode. The architects tell us if there is a landslide on the hilltop the temple could slide and be dangerously damaged. We need someone to work with the villagers to add topsoil, make stone planters around some of the trees and eventually we hope to create a park there.
Our registered NGO, is in need of help in several positions:
Kay Garnay for Nepal, a Nepali based NGO, is in need of one or more volunteers to help us with our village restoration and organic farming/gardening projects.
We are starting an organic farming coop in the village. We need people experienced in organic farming who can teach and work with our villagers to help us make Changunarayan an organic village.
Our other needs:
Why Work when you can just bring something from the West? We desperately need laptop computers, late model digital cameras that may need repair, Nutritional yeast from a health food store and children's books for our library. If you can bring some gently warn, warm clothing for people in the high Himalayas. We can provide a letter for your airline for additional weight if you can bring any of these things. Let us know what you have for us and we can discuss how long you'd like to stay with us. We can provide a private room at no charge; we just ask a small amount for food/utilities, so you can get a bit of rest and your budget will get a break, too.
We are open to the direction you’d like to take us if you have a dream. If you have something you can teach within this theme we welcome you.
What we offer:
We offer a clean room (possibly shared) and toilet, all the food, organic coffee and tea you’d like prepared for you, lovely views, peaceful surroundings, weekly day trips to Kathmandu for site seeing, 24/7 fast WIFI, electricity and hot water and a grateful group of Nepali villagers who need help to support their families and rebuild their lives.
We ask that you teach or work on your agreed upon project for 3 hours per day, 5 days per week and pay $7 per day for food/utilities. If you are unable to pay this amount please let us know. We have provided scholarships for several volunteers, some from other developing nations.
We hope you have a great time in Nepal. If you come to Changunarayan for a short time you will probably end up working and staying longer... It happens. We actually spoil our volunteers.
