Location-Parry Sound Ontario
Type-Homestay with family of 3
Dates - spring/summer 2018
Tasks- installing wood floors, painting, creating gardens, odd jobs at our island.
Hello from Parry Sound on the shores of Georgian Bay, Lake Huron, one of the 5 great lakes! We are very fortunate to live in one of the most beautiful places in the world and we love to share it. There are many places to explore for the outdoor enthusiast. We enjoy having people from other countries visit and share their culture, language and food.
We currently live in a 3 bedroom home in the town of Parry Sound and are building a Straw bale home on 14 acres in the country. Straw bale is a sustainable form of building that uses straw bales as load bearing or infill insulation and is finished in lime cement. The walls are think and curved and beautiful. It lends itself very well to those with an artistic flare!
We are onto the finishing touches and still have trim, railings, stairs and bathroom finishing and wood floors to go. If you are good with power tools we would love your help. There is always touch up painting needed as well.
If you are not handy no worries. . There is always cleaning and organizing that can be done around the house!!! In the warmer seasons there are gardens to be built or weeded and lots to transplant. With 3 dogs, 2 cats and one child our home is full of love and hair so anyone who loves animals will be happy here.
The exchange is 5 hours a day 6 days a week. Much of the work is independent and are things that you can complete from start to finish during your stay.
It would be great to have someone French speaking to help our child with French in school.
We are very easy going and flexible. Food is provided for breakfast, lunch and snacks but it is up to you to help yourself. Dinner is a team effort as is clean up. We are not vegetarian but would be happy to provide ingredients. Your accommodation is in your own private room with an amazingly comfortable bed and a shared washroom.
We are also a non smoking family and would prefer a non smoking helper. There is wifi available at our home and at many of the coffee shops or restaurants and the public library just down the street. Parry Sound is 2 hours north of Toronto but like nowhere else you will visit in Canada with and Archipelago of 30,000 Islands and thousands of acres of Crown Land with hundreds of lakes as well as some of the best camping in the world!
Our interests include any non motorized water sports (sailing, paddling, windsurfing) skiing, biking, exploring trails, geocaching and trying to finish our house!!!
Georgian Bay is a UNESCO wildlife reserve and is the home of many endangered species. For more information visit; (an amazing trail connecting Parry Sound to Algonquin Park)
Pick up or drop off from Toronto may be available. It is also on the Northland bus route.
