Helpers Needed Spring 2020!

It is Spring and I have sawlogs here at home to mill the timbers to complete the building of a Timber-Frame greenhouse and carport. I could really use the assistance of anybody who is interested in learning how to saw logs and build.
I have both gardening and silviculture jobs such as tree planting and pruning and brushing both here on the home property but also on the Woodlot. I am looking for Helpers who are keen to learn new skills and desire to experience coastal life in British Columbia. Quadra Island is a wonderful location for finding the "Island Life", we are a friendly community and welcome visitors. We have a well developed hiking and mtn. biking trail system as well many first class Parks. Salmon and fresh water fishing for trout and digging clams and picking oysters off of the beaches are favourite activities.
Big Tree Farm includes the 10 ha of forested Woodlot with gardens, fruit trees, berries, milk cow, calf, heifer, chickens and ducks with a vacation rental cottage. In addition I operate a 400 ha Woodlot Licence on Crown land where all aspects of forest management are carried out. This includes the environmental assessment and classification of the diverse ecosystem including both the forested areas, salmon streams and wetlands. Road Locations and harvesting are integral to the sustainable management and then the planting and silviculture of the many tree species are a labour intensive aspect that many new workers can assist in.
The photos are a sample of both the homestead and Woodlot pictures. The kayak shot is one of me heading off to one of the water access blocks for a Reqy-hike. That shot of the house is of course in winter after one of our periodic snowfalls. The excavator is placing a log onto our sawmill for one of our building projects. Tim is the former lawnmower who has retired from the horse-logging business. The stop sign being held by my crew-person is actually a reflector for the laser which measures distance and slope for traversing. Maintenance and removal of the deer browse covers that protect the tree seedlings for the first years is an annual activity on the Woodlot. I hope to hear from you soon!
Jerry
