I've a mobile home available for the summer, there is plenty going on and it would make a great base for the summer for a couple or 3 people. there's 2 bedrooms and a sitting room with a sofa that turns into a bed. It is independent from the house and has it's own cooking facilities. It's best to shower in the house although there is a shower in the caravan, there is always hot water in the house from the roof.
There's plenty happening locally, my grown up children are flown the coop, although they haven't gone far. Eleanor works in the tunnels sometimes, but has qualified as a herbalist and will be moving that side of her life forward. We have 10 acres on the road for a new project and are taking it slowly. we will open the farm shop there this summer and I'd like you to help with keeping it open as part of the exchange as well as help pulling the garden and tunnels back together. If you have nursery experience or are a carpenter or plummer, there can be some wages involved but I can employ a good workers locally, so you will have to know what you are doing and not need to be taught everything, otherwise for inexperienced helpers who are looking for some interaction with people and a really beautiful place to stay, the exchange is 20 hours a week for full board.
Independent, easy going, liberal minded, unjudgemental people is what we are looking for, we are who we are, this might be 5 star reviews, but it's not 5 star accommodation! If it rains there is mud, bring wellies if you can, otherwise there are old waterproofs around. I'll try and put some new pictures up and update the blog over the next week.
We grow medical herbs in pots for resale, so an interest in this area would be good. As I said, Eleanor has just qualified and will be making medicines here as the harvest comes over the summer and autumn. We are members of the Irish Specialist Nursery Association and I have 2 city centre garden shops that sell our herbs and specialize in indoor gardening and hydroponics.
I have a large family, there are 5 of them, They are all around, in and out with their freinds and a busy business life. There is plenty happening in the local area, if you are into alternative living. The best pubs are 15 km away in Bantry, the local shop is 4 miles away, so transport would be useful, biking is possible, the way to the coast is fairly flat although we live on the side of a valley. Across country there are beautiful hilly walks and amazing views of the sea, prehistoric monuments and pools to swim when the weather gets hot. We are 10 miles from the sea and 30 miles from decent sandy beaches. 4 miles to the nearest shop too.
There's a veg and herb garden in the ring fort, which are not fully productive and 3 tunnels behind the house. We haven't done very much to the new land yet, a little hedging (medical and edible) and ditching and we're rebuilding the old tin shop at the moment. We want to have it running on a part time basis by the beginning of June.
There are plenty of people coming and going.

We're a pretty chilled bunch, unique in our own way, a bit chaotic. We're happy to welcome like minded folk who are able to help themselves,
Other than that this is west cork, an alternative experience. Plenty of alternative scene, beautiful country side, ceili dancing on a Tuesday at one of the local pubs, music in Bantry at the weekends and a great market on Fridays. You need to be capable to live here. Light fires, cook food and get yourself about. If all this suits, we'd love to meet you and share our home this season.
