Feb 2018 Update: need a pair of helpers for dates in late March to second week April, again late April and early June. Strongly prefer a couple or two friends sharing. We cannot really accommodate helpers coming on their own.
The heart of this rural smallholding is a renovated, traditional stone cottage, built in 1758 and located in south County Down, roughly between Belfast and Dublin. Situated in the foothills of the Mourne Mountains and only twenty minutes from the Irish Sea, the farm sits on a 2 acre site which is given over to an exotic arboretum, orchard, native woodland and an organic vegetable garden, including a forty-foot polytunnel. Though the property is fairly rustic, all amenities are here: you will want for nothing, including high-speed wireless throughout. HelpX accommodation is in a nicely heated traditional stone cottage, complete with two beautiful, tuned upright pianos! HelpX tasks include all the usual organic gardening jobs, as well maintenance of the trees and shrubs and looking after the chickens. The host is a university lecturer who is away part of the time, so it's a good idea to be a self-starter who is willing to work independently. Sitting far from the road, Tullyquilly possesses a rare, old-world charm in an idyllic setting that is heart-breakingly beautiful. Everyone who comes here immediately falls in love with the place and is sad to leave.
The work week is 30 hrs, organized as you like. Some of that work is good enough, but other tasks are strenuous, monotonous or unpleasant. This is a HelpX farm for serious, hard-working volunteers who wish to skill up and become competent organic farmers. Also, if you are a musician or juggler, please identify yourself as such. We do that stuff here, too.
