We are a couple living on an almost 90 acre, off-grid land co-operative.
We have cellular / mobile service, and intermittent internet.
We produce our own power using a micro-hydro system which is currently generating 8 KW and is shared by us and the five other households on the land.
This land co-operative works together and plays together but is not a commune. We cultivate lifestyles of low-impact modern living in intentional community while living independently. We aim toward a lifestyle of voluntary simplicity.

We have a large community garden which is not certified organic, but we follow organic gardening principles and beliefs.

We focus on organic growing methods such as hugelculture and permaculture although we are always interested in learning about new ways to grow. We strive toward total food self-sufficiency, however - we are still a long way from that being a reality but close enough to see that it's nearly within our grasp!

We have bee hives on the land. We are currently have hens, dogs and cats. These animals provide us with part of our diet (meat and eggs) As our diets revolve around meat and animals, we are not suitable hosts for vegetarians or vegans...sorry, but you guys would be really hungry here

We can comfortably host 2 people indoors and there is a lot of space to tent, if you are interested. We have 2 dogs and 2 cats, and we do not accept other pets on the land. Public transit is available nearby and can easily get you to Nelson. If you've not been to Nelson, it's a very unique, eclectic, artistic and vibrant community! There's none other like it in the world I'm sure!

We are situated on a mountainside with incredible views and plenty of little hiking trails. We live in the forest. There IS wildlife. Bears, cougars, deer, moose, elk and many other critters live in the forest with us. Problems with wildlife are rare. But wildlife is a reality of living in the forest!

This year, we are seeking two long term helpers. There are two areas where we need people. One would be cooking, cleaning and gardening. The other would be building/maintenance. The helpers should already have these skills and be ready to get started on projects that are ongoing. Strong, hard working people with ability to work alone with their hands, and with tools. We are doing renovation and maintenance work, everything from digging to building needs doing.
We ask that the people who come to stay with us be friendly, laid back self-starters who can take initiative and enjoy being in the wilderness.

Everybody on the land is very friendly. We just know that you will love it here! There will be lots of time for play - the Kootenays is a great place to play outside!
