We have an organic olive and fig farm set in the beautiful Extremadura countryside, off the beaten track of your run of the mill tourist. We are in the process of building up the farmstead to be as self sufficient as possible. Upcoming projects which require volunteer assistance are as follows: in 2019 we especially need volunteers with building experience as we are constructing a woodshed, a firepit and a duck pond. Always we need help with general repairs and upkeep of buildings, more fruit trees to be planted, new flower beds created, dry stone walling, new paths and walkways, olive harvest is in December, Fig harvest in July/August (very very hot for volunteers so we usually do this one on our own) and sometimes into September. We keep chickens for eggs and occasionally for eating. We have a vegetable garden that needs alot of soil improvement. Volunteers could be engaged in general gardening, pruning, grass cutting, digging, weeding etc with fig harvest in August/September and olives in December.

Jane is a textile artist and works with local wool to make yarn so there is always fleece to be washed and picked, combed etc in preparation for spinning.

Possible preserve making, bread making etc as well as possible dog sitting (only one small dog at present) We are also very much beginners in learning Spanish and would welcome fluent Spanish speakers or Spanish language teachers to give us some lessons in return for accommodation.

Accommodation for volunteers is A self contained casita with one bedroom, all modern conveniences, solar electricity, solar water heating, fridge, gas cooker etc.

The finca is just a ten minute walk from a thriving village with supermarkets, restaurants, shops, bars, etc. We also have the internet and telephone. English spoken on the finca but Spanish required in the village (even basic will get you by as everyone is very friendly here) and we can manage some French too. Volunteers must be able to undertake hard physical work - around 4 or 5 hours daily for 5 days plus two days off. During olive harvest it's more hours as we work afternoons too. Normally we provide a substantial meal in the middle of the day and then Volunteers cater for themselves in the evening but during olive harvest ALL food is provided. We keep Spanish hours eating lunch at 2pm after which your time is your own. Showers and toilets are modern and ecologically friendly.

Volunteers must have a good sense of humour and a pleasant, willing personality - Outdoorsy people will get more from their stay here than those less hardy. We can pick you up from Caceres train station (easiest route to us is to fly to Madrid and then get the train to Caceres, last train is at 7:30pm so arrange flights accordingly.
