We offer visitors a unique opportunity of a volunteer program for those of you who would like to spend a bit more time being a bit closer to the South Africa lifestyle. Andrew used to volunteer all over the world 30 years ago and loved the experience and this is something he has created to give something back.

Volunteers have 3 options.

1. Conny has 9 horses and is continually training and excising them. We practice the softer horse whispering techniques and go for slow outrides on the farm. We have a foal that needs a lot of attention too. Conny also has a few donkeys to need to be cared for. Most of the animals on the farm were rescues and are now living in a very loving and cared for space.

2. You can work together with Andrew doing woodwork and alternative building. Andrew will teach you our unique style of woodwork and alternative building. Passion for this is everything but experience will help too. Its difficult to say exactly what you will be doing but we integrate volunteers into our sustainable projects. Its dusty so make sure you bring cloths you don't mind getting dirty. And this is where I think the real opportunities are to be found and the longer you stay the more you will get from the experience. Once you show you are getting a handle on things you will be responsible your own project. Volunteers who stay for shorter periods tend to be more busy with odd jobs here and there.

3. The third option is to help out at the lodge. There might be a bit organic gardening, helping out with guests or whatever else needs doing at the lodge. And if you have any skills that you would like to share I am sure that I can find someone who would like to learn from you. South Africa in general has a huge lack of skills and any skill development that takes place will be helping uplift peoples lives. We have had chefs teaching cooking, an architect that has helped to change some of our ways of doing things, horse trainers that have worked to improve horse care and the list goes on.

We generally try to see what you want to do and then make that work. So letting us know what you are looking for will give us a great start on seen what we can offer you.

We offer accommodation and food in exchange for your contribution of effort. This is not about cheap labor and nor is it about cheap holiday options. So we have structured it like this. We expect 9 hours of work a day in exchange for 3 meals a day and accommodation. 5 Days on and 2 days off a week.

Reference letters at the end of your working adventure can also be arranged.

And there is a lot for you to explore in our amazing surroundings and popular tourist sites. This includes hiking in the Drakensberg Mountains, horse trails, viewing bushman rock art, visiting Weenen Game Reserve, checking out the Midlands Meander or just chilling out with a great book. Volunteers will be hands on and would need to get their hands dirty.

To get involved please send me an email letting me know what you would like to do, what sort of skills you have and when and how long you would like to come for. We only have limited capacity so the more notice you can give us the better.
