We will see what happens with this virus. Right now no helpers for a while. Mahalo
The air quality is clean and clear, no vog! Blue skies and beautiful sunsets every night from our lani!
When making your airline reservations, please book your incoming flight to Kona arrive before 6pm as we are 40 miles from the airport. Mahalo for you consideration.
Aloha from the Big Island of Hawaii!! We are a big farm full of pets, and lots of love! We need a lot of help to get our farm looking good again. We appreciate people who love and care about the Aina (land), and who do not mind working hard and getting their hands dirty.
We have 12 acres of macadamia nuts and 2000 coffee trees, so most of the help will be needed to get those back in production. We also roast coffee for other farmers!
About the work:
- Simple garden maintenance - including raking and weeding
- Weed-wacking, sawing, leaf-blowing, and mowing
- Coffee tree tending
- Macadamia Nut harvesting
- Light cleaning
Daily hygiene is a must after work!
We ask 20 hours a week over 4 days (8AM - 1PM) for housing. We do not supply you with food on a daily basis, but we will treat you to some occasional home-cooked meals and outings!!
Our special farm is very large for two people to maintain, but we will never ask you to do something we wouldn`t do ourselves. The work can be physically tough, but we don`t expect you to break your back working for us! We want you to work at your own pace and take the breaks you need - we just appreciate the help! Together, all things are possible!
About our farm:
The farm is approximately one hour from Kailua Kona, about 11 miles from the closest store, and 5 miles from the ocean. If you like peace and quiet, you will love it here! You may choose to have your own car, but we go into town often and we are always happy to drop you off at the beach. It would be difficult to travel around by bicycle from our farm.
There is a bus stop at the end of the street. The bus runs Monday through Saturday.
Our farm is for the animal lover. We have 3 dogs (2 outdoor and 1 indoor), 20 chickens we tend to in our coop (they provide our eggs). The farm gets visited by wild turkeys and chickens as well. You may find a chameleon or two in our trees. We have 14 loving cats (2 are indoor/outdoor, the rest are outdoor cats).
About the accommodation:
The living space is an Ohana with two separate rooms, each with its own bathroom. One room has a king-sized bed, the other can accommodate up to 4... (Very comfortable!) Kitchen facilities consist of a gas stove with 4 burners located outside on our ocean view lanai, a microwave, toaster-oven , and all the kitchen supplies you will need. We also provide towels and linens.
We have a few housekeeping rules, but generally we just expect you to be a good guest by keeping your living space, bathroom and kitchen area clean and organized, removing your shoes before entering (a Hawaiian custom), doing your own laundry, and washing your own dishes. Please be respectful of your fellow housemates by keeping the noise down in the evening.
Please note that our water is catchment (collected rain water), so we ask that you help us conserve.
What we are looking for in helpers:
We prefer to take couples (two friends are okay, too!), but please note that you will be sharing a room. Non-smokers and non-drug users, please. English-speaking is helpful! We require your stay to at least one month. Longer term stays are definitely possible!
We understand that plans change when traveling; however, when you make plans to work here, it is a commitment which we expect you to fulfill. If your plans do change along the way, we would appreciate that you give us at least 2 weeks notice so that we can arrange for other helpers to come.
When you work here you will be treated like family. We accept helpers from all walks of life! We love meeting new people and are so excited to meet helpers from around the world! We look forward to meeting you!!
