Ri and Neil live in lovely Bacchus Marsh (a town 40 min from Melbourne, Geelong and Ballarat). Ri is a ceramic artist and works in her home-based studio. Neil works at Melbourne University in research computing.

Over the past couple of years we have had a fabulous experience hosting French, Spanish and German couples who have helped us with all sorts of house things (e.g, painting, garden work, kiln fabrication), as well as being wonderful company.

We continue with our seemingly never-ending program of home improvements. So our current set of tasks are
- weeding and distributing mulch and other garden jobs
- distributing and compacting a gravel area (already made)
- replacing some garden bed bordering

So if you fancy some garden fun, please drop us a line.

We are looking for engaging and interested visitors who are willing to have a go. We prefer couples aged 25 and over who have some basic handy-person skills and some outdoors/gardening experience.

You must be able to speak English at a basic conversational level; we also speak some Dutch.

We expect 4ish hours of work per day (we are flexible with hours) in return for accommodation and meals. You will be living with us so we expect you to pitch in a bit (e.g. clean up after yourselves) - if you like to cook, great !

Accommodation is one room with a queen sized bed and a bathroom of your own. We can supply internet (WiFi), the train is walking distance, and we are a non-smoking house.

Bacchus Marsh is a beautiful rural town of some 20,000 people. It's 40 min from Melbourne by train or car, as well as being conveniently centrally located to centres like Geelong, Daylesford and Ballarat. Bacchus Marsh is particularly known as a produce growing area and hosts several orchards, berry farms and other vegetables. It also has some nice cafes (one in particular has live music once a month) where you can get a decent coffee !

Bacchus Marsh is also known for being very close to the Lerderderg and Werribee gorges where walks and rock climbing are available (see

We are also members of CouchSurfing and have hosted many a traveller. We also surfed ourselves when in Europe a couple of years ago. We love to hear and share stories with our visitors on travel and life experiences.
