We have created an association here in the heart of the Normandy countryside at my home with the aim of sharing ideas and practices relating to permaculture, veganism and sustainable living. The work with friends and volunteers is currently coordinated by myself (an English woman with a background in plant based cooking, permaculture, organic gardening, teaching and ecoconstruction).

This year we will be rendering a rammed earth tyre retaining wall in the garden with earth, lime and mosaics, building rustic gates and applying lime renders to part of the old wattle and daub house. We will also be developing the food growing aspect of the project. We have created an edible/permaculture landscape consisting of a mandala garden, apple orchard and forest garden. We grow edible flowers, herbs and fruit and vegetables. I want to work on incorporating more green manures, edible perennais, living mulch and wild plants.

Vegan cooking is a big part of life here. We try to use produce from the land as much as possible. I would love to hear from you if you would like to stay for a longer period to help develop the food growing project especially if you have some relevant knowledge and experience. I am a qualified organic gardener with experience of permaculture approaches so I can offer guidance.

This year we will be starting to run vegan cooking workshops and a two day introduction to permaculture later in the year. If you like vegan cooking - great!!

I could do with some help to create a website for our association as well as to know how to promote courses on social media or other methods.

If you have skills in plumbing, engineering or design I would love to work on designing a sustainable water system here, renewable energy and dry toilet block.

In lending a hand here there is the possibility for you to gain skills in ecoconstruction, permaculture, vegetarian/vegan cookery and organic growing.

Accommodation for volunteers is currently in caravans but there is ample space for camping on the land. There are dry toilets here and we have a grey water system which means that we all use 100% natural organic products. Life here is simple and tranquil (no TV). There is internet access.

The nearest town is Saint Hilaire du Harcouet - 6km away where there is a thriving weekly market. Mont Saint Michel is a half an hour drive and there are beautiful waterfalls not far from here at Mortain. There are lots of towns and cities of interest to visit, like Fougeres with its old castle and the coastal cities of Granville and Saint Malo. You can borrow bikes on days off and there are buses that go to various places from Saint Hilaire du Harcouet. There are lots of books on ecoconstruction, organic gardening and healthy cooking here both in English and French.

There are a couple of guitars and a ukeleli here that you can borrow and I am always up for exchanging new songs.

Both English and French spoken.

We have two cats here so this is not a good place for those with cat allergies or intolerances.

So look forward to meeting you if you are curious and interested in creating a more sane and balanced world.

When contacting me, it is helpful to know what skills you can offer, what interests you about coming here, the date you would like to come and your intended length of stay.
