House & Projects:
When we bought our house a few years ago, it needed a LOT of work: remodeling, painting, carpentry, landscaping, etc. We've made many improvements, but there are still many more projects to do.
We are a multi-generational family ranging in age from 28 to 65. Plus, we have 16 chickens, 2 border collies and sometimes, a corgi.
In the last 5 years, we have hosted nearly 100 Helpxers from many places working on many projects! Each Helpxer has been unique and wonderful! Weíve accomplished so many things and have made so many wonderful memories together.
Many of our HelpXers have slept on our 2 comfy couches, but most times there are private rooms available. We also use our camper for accommodations when we need extra space.
There is always painting, painting and more painting to be done! It is a never-ending project!! In addition, we do gardening and landscaping, plus splitting and stacking firewood. As an example of things we do, last summer (2019) we replaced some fencing, redesigned a patio cover, worked on our greenhouse and numerous smaller tasks. We still have some interior finishing work to complete, as well as the typical tasks of upkeep and maintenance required to run a house.
We're a lively bunch of easy-going people who laugh a lot...and we're happy to host enthusiastic workers regardless of your levels of expertise. Of course, any special skills like plumbing, carpentry, electrical, etc. are always appreciated.
The city of Seattle is reachable by bus...and in the North Bend area, there are many outdoor activities in the summer. Winter activities are more limited, of course...but we always find something interesting to do.
We are asking an exchange of about 25 hours per week of labor. Depending on the work, the weather and what YOU want to see and do while you're here, we can schedule these hours according to whatever works best for both of us. We are very flexible. Also, I sometimes forget to take breaks, so please don't hesitate to remind me :-)
Your work exchange does include all meals. We prepare most meals communally and share dinner almost every night. If you like to cook, that's great...if not, we only ask that you contribute to preparation and clean-up.
We treat our Helpxers like part of the family, so please take initiative to be an active participant. We frequently have up to 10 people here in the summer and we work hard, eat well and have LOTS of fun!!
We have wifi, cable TV, washer/dryer, towels, pillows and blankets. You don't need to bring much, but if you're traveling, we can find a place to store your gear (if necessary).
We can arrange transportation if you arrive by plane, train or bus. If you have a car, our parking is limited, but we'll figure-out something.
We'd like to have you stay for at least a week (preferably two weeks). If you want to stay longer, we can see how it goes.
Also, we understand when travel plans change (thatís the nature of travel, sometimes), but if we accept your request and then your plans change...please let us know (instead of simply not showing up). Unfortunately, as more people are Helpxing, this is happening far too frequently.
First, it concerns us...and second, we get lots of requests. If we are saving a space for you, it usually means another request has been denied. Donít do that to other Helpxers!
We are all English-speaking Americans with one who can speak a little Spanish.
Email is the best way to contact me, but if you call and I don't answer, leave a message and I'll get back to you. Also, donít hesitate to send a message through WhatsApp.
