I live in and am working on a 15th century palace in the main square of a small, medieval, hill-top town. 20 yards or so from the house, the River Tormes flows through a canyon in the granite rocks. From the back dining room, there are views of open country. The palace was built by Don Beltrán de la Cueva who played a noteworthy part in Spanish history.

The plan is to make the place into a visitor centre which will include a space in which visitors can see and hear a theatrical presentation of the history of Don Beltran and La Beltraneja.

There ere are always many things to get on with but I am easy going as far as putting my guests to work is concerned. I really value good company and conversation and like to arrange excursions to show my guests the area as a whole for which more than just a few days are needed. Meals are communal and usually made to a high standard. Help with the cooking would be a real help at times there are many Helpxers here.

There is a large main lounge with grand piano, guitars and recorders etc, If it gets chilly this lounge has a large log fireplace.

The summer can be very hot here but because the house is built of stone, the interior stays fairly cool.

There's a full size table tennis table in its own room. There is no TV but most rooms have a sound system.

Don't worry if your travel plans are vague, some guests stay for weeks, others for just a few nights.

Just about any diet can be readily catered for. Meat, fish and vegan are all served often, but those with special diets should let me know before arriving so I can get appropriate ingredients in.

You can swim in the rivers, in the lake or, in July and August, in the public open-air pool. There's an all-season indoor pool just over 20 minutes away.

35 kms from the bustling world heritage university city of Salamanca - Ledesma has recently joined the select band of towns and villages with the accolade "Most beautiful in Spain". It is very small (though definitely a town) and generally the area is very quiet and is recognised as one of the least polluted parts of Europe. A quiet corner of Portugal is also less than an hour away - the terrain both sides of the border is an international natural park, and semi wild. The human population in this part of Spain is low generally.

Home made ice-cream or vegan sorbet are nearly always in the freezer and new ideas for flavours and textures will be most welcome.
