* CURRENTLY LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WITH MECHANICAL / TRADE SKILLS AS WELL AS EXPERIENCED WESTERN RIDERS FOR OUR SUMMER SEASON *
Our 164-acre ranch is located halfway between the Pacific Coast and the Rocky Mountains, right on a beautiful wilderness lake in the Nicola Valley. We lie in the heart of British Columbia’s big Ranching country and are surrounded by vast forests, rolling hills and boundless prairies where beavers, bears, moose and pumas still roam.
As "Private Cowboy and Country Club" we are offering services like horseback riding, boating, fishing, restaurant/bar, accommodations, maintenance, etc. to our Ranch Residents and members only.
Summer or winter, there’s always loads to do with a herd of 12 horses like mucking out stalls and paddocks, maintaining round pen, arena and fields. For the summer / fall of 2020 we are looking for experienced riders who are willing to stay for a longer period to help us with all these horse related tasks in addition to the day-to-day chores at the Ranch. In spring we are busy getting the horses ready for summer and when our Ranch Residents are here in summer and fall, you would also accompany trail rides into the wilderness. It is of utmost importance that you carry insurance that specifically covers you for horseback riding and horse related activities.
However, you do not need to have experience with horses to volunteer here. We always need help with general Ranch maintenance like fencing, fixing gates, clearing riding and hiking trails, road maintenance, firewood, clean up of dead trees, landscaping, cutting lawns, gardening, watering, weed control, painting or if interested and able construction, carpentry, operation and service of our Ranch machinery.
Some of our upcoming projects are the renovation of an old log cabin, tearing down and building of a bridge possibly with the use of on site timber, building of a new and improved wood shelter / wood splitting site, new log / rail gates, decks, dock building and repair, roof repair, kitchen project in one of our existing log cabins, …
We also need somebody who is happy to clean and help with housekeeping tasks or cooking.
Accommodation is provided in single rooms or in a double room for a couple at the Main Lodge and in summer also in a small, freestanding cabin with a double bed for a couple with the use of a shower house.
We ask for about 30 hours of volunteering per week in exchange for food and housing. There is a fully equipped Cookhouse where you prepare your own meals.
Please have a look at our website for more information about the Ranch and us and have a look through our on-line photo album, so you can get a better idea about our little piece of paradise.
If you are interested in a unique experience in the Canadian wilderness, enjoy nature and animals, appreciate the aspects of a remote lifestyle and don`t mind getting your hands dirty, please contact us.
Our closest town is Merritt which is a 50 km drive. There is no public transportation to the Ranch. After arrangements are made, you can take the bus to Merritt and we will pick you up there.
We have a minimum stay of 3 weeks but do prefer longer stays.
We have been hosting volunteers for several years now through different organizations and would be happy to forward you comments we received.
