Our farm is a 50 acre sustainable family farm located in middle Georgia east of Macon, an hour south of Atlanta and two 1/2 hours from Savannah and the beach. We grow hay and naturally grown vegetables for a small CSA and the local markets. Approximately 14 acres is in hay and 14 acres in naturally grown vegetables. The other acreage is in wildlife and land conservation. We are a member of Georgia Organics and we currently serve a Main Street Market in the nearby city as well as a farm stand once a week. Volunteers would be involved in all aspects of vegetable production including planting, fertilization, irrigation, as well as farm & fence maintenance, weed & pest control. Expect to help harvest crops, prepare the produce for market as well as participate in the direct selling. We are looking for self-motivated people who aren't afraid of getting their hands dirty. An average workday is usually 6 hours 6 days a week and includes three home cooked meals every day. Our new project is reconstructing a 130 year old potato house on the farm to use as a farm stand.
There are opportunities to learn about hydroponics, Canning, marketing, Dehydrating, Aquaculture, raising rabbits and growing in all seasons. Other projects include continuing to develop an educational garden and environmental science class without walls for local schools. Currently we can accommodate three volunteers, preferably female. We have separate living quarters for the volunteers. The living area features a kitchen & bathroom. Volunteers are welcome anytime of the year. We speak English and some Signed English/contact American Sign Language. We eat wholesome, organic, locally raised and grown food. Special diets are welcomed. Keep in mind that this is a FAMILY farm. :)
