This is an emerging community project in the breathtaking setting of the "Alpi Apuane" mountains. We have a focus on local self-sufficiency, permaculture, natural building and community issues.

Immersed in a wild valley 10 walking minutes from the fairy-tale medieval village of Trassilico (Lucca Province), we set on the mission of bringing back to life a long abandoned little hamlet on a sunny slope.

Up to now, all of our activities are non-commercial and aim towards greater community resilience. Tasks might include:

+ All aspects of small-scale food production
+ Land clearing and fencing
+ Renovation of local typical stone buildings
+ Building new structures with natural materials
+ Small-scale forest work for energy autonomy

If you have a strong interest (or talent) in a specific field, better let us know in advance - and we'll tell you whether we have the right project for you at the time.

We would like to warmly welcome all kinds of folks interested in re-connection to the living world, revolutionary change and radical simplicity. Xenophobes and individualists should better stay at home or look for a hotel, in our opinion.

Our food is mainly plant-based and, as you would expect, we try to give priority to what we can produce or gather locally. Accomodation could be either in a small room in Miriam's and Daniel's charming little house in Trassilico or on the beautiful natural campsite next to the gardens - depending on availability, season and your personal preferences (to be agreed between us before your arrival).

Just to avoid misunderstandings: You will hate this place if all you are looking for is free accomodation from where to explore Lucca, Pisa, Firenze and all the other tourist meccas that Tuscany offers (and we will probably not like you very much, either). We are quite cut off, public transport reaches Trassilico few times a day. You will instead love it if you come with a genuine interest in eco-living and permaculture and are capable of opening yourself to the natural beauty of the surroundings here - which is beyond words.

Thus a minimum stay of 5-7 days makes sense - otherwise the ratio between arranging to get here, introduction to the tasks and the project and your actual involvement could remain quite unbalanced.

Sounds good to you? Please write us a couple of lines (including your experience, physical ability to work and skills). We are looking forward to get to know you and create something beautiful together.
