Our farming practices are based on french intensive, no till raised beds and without the use of chemical fertilizers, pesticides or herbicides. We focus on growing open pollinated and heirloom varieties and absolutely NO GMO'S. We build our soil health and biodiversity by using our own animal manures and with the use of cover crops and crop rotation. We seek to minimize our environmental impact and grow affordable produce while also making our living from the land.

Our animals include Dexter cows, American Blackbelly and Dorper sheep, Sable and Nubian milking goats, Boar cross meat goats, Bourbon Red turkeys, ducks, heritage chickens, horses and of course cats and dogs.

We would like individuals who are interested in the process of starting a small farm with an emphasis of year round vegetable production. This is not for the faint hearted, we work long strenuous days. We expect our interns to take part in daily chores which include weeding, planting, harvesting, milking and feeding the animals. You will also have the opportunity to learn how to make cheese, goat milk soap, hand salves and herbal tinctures and oils. Interns can expect to go to farmer's market and plan on working with me, the farmer, every work day!

Housing includes tipis, a small camper with running water, kitchen space, composting toilet and outdoor shower. We also include seasonal veggies, milk, cheese, eggs and meat from our animals, bulk basics. In exchange we expect 40 hours a week of work. Work day lunches are eaten together, for all other meals interns are responsible for cooking their own with the food we provide. Laundry facility and internet are available in our home. Extended stays up to 2 months are strongly preferred, however we will consider shorter stays. Currently our apprentice program runs from March until November. If you would like to speak with fellow interns about their experiences working with us, let us know, and we can happily put you in touch with them.

Clark Fork is a small charming backwoods town, population around 500. From our farm, town is 2 miles, an easy bike ride where you can use the library, buy bulk foods or baked goods at the Pantry, or go to the Monarch Market for basic food supplies. There is swimming in Lightning Creek near our property or Lake Pend Oreille is a short distance away. Sandpoint, a larger happening place is a 35 minute car ride. Hiking, camping and mountain biking opportunities are endless, its why we choose to live here!
