Currently we would really appreciate a reasonably competent carpenter/builder -can be funky as long as will end up structurally sound, this is to join the team who are rebuilding our wooden cabin.

We are very focussed on what seems to us the most important tasks at hand (buying and preparing good food and managing our offgrid system so that heat and water are available for our helpers as well as our selves)we will prioritise the needs of our helpers above our own ; that does mean that sometimes especially during a drought and/or in winter (a winter drought is the most difficult)it may be disorganised if this would really upset you, then you might prefer another situation.

We are only 13 minutes walk through countryside to a very special unspoilt clean ocean sandy beach in a designated natural park area) If you like and can stay for longer than 2 weeks we can mix this up with some mosaic/artwork

Completely off grid but comfortable 7kw solar energy system so always power to charge phone/ laptop/ mp3 player. If we are charging our electric car (yes totally green here!!!) you will have to ask/wait a few minutes, if you want to(for example) boil a kettle, for us to unplug the car, before putting your kettle on.

Permaculture project now at first stage , 2 terraces made and some water management under way some mulching and watering and planting tree revealing etc. "Hoopoe waves her op-art wings and every footfall fragrance brings wild herbs are crushed beneath your feet and rock-rose air flows spicy sweet, rock-rose air flows spicy sweet" (another verse from(my) Algarve Spring song).

We really prefer at least a 14 day stay-having people come and go is tiring or a week minimum -it takes a while to adjust to eco house lifestyle.

Friendly experienced help required, animal friendly people [1 dog and a cat here so not a good place if you are allergic]who respect creativity.
Due to injury we don`t feel we have the right level of enthusiastic energy to be the best introduction to helpxing for inexperienced helpers though if a single perdon you m8ght be able to persuade us...
. We like 26 hours(can be less depends on the tasks) work each week from each person + a bit of vegetable chopping, this is for your accommodation and all your food. Food is mainly organic and vegetarian /flexetarian we do eat a lot of garlic onions avocadoes if you can't stand garlic and onions best to only take the less hours cook your own food option.

We value and appreciate intelligent willing supportive person/s to help with painting and de-cluttering -organising house etc ,housework pruning.(We always need someone who can dry stone wall using the stones that are on the land, as long as the walls stay up- and withstand sheep and goats they will do) For dry stone walling or skilled carpentry/construction we could add some paid hours. If within your skill set then some repairs too;any/all of these could be livened up with a bit of art/mosaic work if that appealed

. Please tell us what you have to offer that we need, as well as what you want to experience when you ask to come here. At the moment friendly general support as above would be great- seasonal outdoor jobs (we put these to show the variety of work here -NOT to expect anyone to do them all), weeding, painting, path laying, dry stone wall building, repairs, raised bed making/maintaining.

We DO need there to be some general housework and organising we will ALWAYS mix this up with other work selected based on yourskill set/ preferences .Until further notice we now need EXPERIENCED helpxers(or woofers who can provide references from those they have helped),we would like you to have basic life skills (wash up and tidy dishes away, sweep/vacuum a floor UNASKED!!! clear up after you as you go along etc).

We are looking for super friendly stable helpers with references . .We would like you to be able to be happy here-it is good for you and nicer for us (this is not a business so the good relaxed time is very important).

For people who like more beach /walking/free time.We can provide accommodation only and buy your gas for you to cook for yourself plus provide for you 2 ring cooker and pots and pans, plates cutlery and at least 1 lift a week to and from big shops-village is nice 3 k walk for your bits and pieces)for which we ask 12 hours work per person + a bit of floor sweeping or similar. It is a very beautiful area so a lovely place to visit.

Also an interesting mosaic project waits for the right person ie with the bravery and inspiration and the wish to stay for longer than 2 weeks.

This is not a business so we value above all friendly easy going stable helper/s used to/can adapt to.. low energy rural lifestyles. People who are happy to share for a while our lovely situation in a beautiful peaceful part of Portugal..This is tiny footprint living with solar energy and only rainwater, which is limited but unpolluted and better than most water on the planet.

We always try to be relaxed and flexible with our helpers ie interchange heavy/grotty tasks with light/clean/fun ones and coordinate with helpers to provide good leisure time thinking about weather and good beach time-see our reviews.
Non or EXTREMELY considerate smokers please. If you can give us a landline or mobile (or whats app)or facebook messenger number/id we need to phone you to ensure as much as is possible that it will be a good experience for us all. .
With what we`ve written and all the reviews (43 GOOD reviews out of 46)recently we sadly had a very unsuccessful experience but straight after we had some wonderful helpers so we have not been put off..you have a lot of info, please read well before asking to come, great if you can tell us what you would be happy to try/competent at from the variety we need as written here.
We believe happy help is the best help and the good tolerant heart from both sides makes for a true exchange. We live 20km from Lagos 18km from Sagres 5km from Budens in a natural park-in western Algarve. The accomodation is basic and depends on how many helpers are here and what time of year.Currently because it is being rebuilt cabin is not available unless you stayed until after it was fixed (the detached wood cabin with own solar panel compost toilet (at a short walk away from cabin) woodstove sink 2 ring cooker;( this is for your tea/coffee in the early morning, the meals you eat with us -unless you choose accommodation only)).or a small bedroom in main house(not a posh "tout comme il faut" villa) May-October some other options too .
Many books on food health, personal growth, myths and quality fiction. There is an acoustic guitar you can play while you are here(and some mini "hang" type drums) if you are missing yours, also a chance to play with cd/usb dj decks. There is the opportunity here for you to learn some massage, creative listening, healing through diet+intro to aromatherapy+chakra work (as part of our cultural exchange together- no money involved) and we are open to what you might have to teach us- email us to start a dialogue we will only host you after talking on phone first. If u love countryside and beach-it`s a great place to be."peace comes dropping slow"
Thank you all the great helpers we have had here Bless you all. We look forward to more. Happy travelling and helpxing.Photos are of The centre of the ceiling a helpx assisted project, the local area, the local (13 mins walk away)beach, trees etc outside our house, beach from above Quietly beautiful.
