We are Darcy and Keith, recently moved from the big city of Toronto to rural Kingston, to live on a family homestead farm, Bonniespring, that goes back 4 generations in Darcy's family. We came here to start a lavender farm, and learn to raise cashmere goats. The farm includes lots of beautiful forest for hiking and a beautiful spring that gives the farm its name. We are in need of help on the farm currently in the peak time of our first planting season. We are a short distance from both Kingston and Gananoque, "gateway to the 1000 islands." Our business plan in progress includes a foundation of principles, including a commitment to animal rights and the environment, a no-kill vegetarian, pesticide-free and herbicide-free farm. We hope to gain organic certification in Ontario in the future. Read more on our website:

Secret Field Lavender Day Retreats!

Calling all local and regional daytrippers, who have an interest in lavender or enjoy gardening. We are starting a lavender farm in a beautiful field, hidden by forest, on Bonniespring, a historic farm in rural Kingston. Our hope is to develop an agri-tourism destination in the near future. We find ourselves at peak time right now, with the sudden need for extra hands, as 1000+ baby lavender plants have begun to arrive from the greenhouse where they are being propagated. To respond to our need for help in this busy time, we have decided to host a "raising bee" with lovely benefits!

Escape from life to the country for a day, learn about lavender farming, and enjoy a home-cooked vegetarian meal, made with local ingredients. Experience a new lavender farm being set up, and enjoy hiking in the forest, or relaxing in nature. There are nearly 100 acres of forest, including trails, available on site for hiking and exploring. The day will include both structured and unstructured time. Don't worry if you don't have a "green thumb," but if you love gardening, or would like to learn about lavender, then you will enjoy this hands-on experience. Two short work periods (two hours each) will be held for helping in the Secret Field, with a two-hour break in between to enjoy the sites and sounds of Bonniespring. After that, a hearty gourmet meal will be served "al fresco" under a large shady tree near our homestead garden, including recipes curated from architect John Pawson's "Living and Eating" and "Kinfolk Table" by Nathan Williams.

Sign up for one or more of our lavender retreat days: Saturday, June 20th, and daily, from Monday, June 22nd through Friday, June 26th.

More lavender retreat days to be added in future, depending on greenhouse schedule, but time is limited for this planting. If you are available and want to have some quiet time in a beautiful place (with the scent of lavender in the air) please join us!
