On large ranch, we operate our horse rescue sanctuary. This is a non-profit 501C-3 and as of summer 2015; have over 300 horses on the property.

There are 3 full time employees who manage the ranch and horses. We are always looking for more help to work with the youngsters in halter breaking, humanizing and grooming activities. Must be good and comfortable around horses. Other activities may include help with vetting process when we bring groups in for annual shots or feet trimming, cleaning pens for those that have to be separated due to injuries and spending time with new horses in our quarentine area to get them use to people and adjusted to life at the ranch.

Accommodations include park home for 1 or 2 (if couple) including full kitchen facilities. No meals will be automatically provided but I often bring lunch to the guys M-F when I visit my residents (equines).

This person will be expected to help with the feeding process on Saturday and Sundays and can have a day off during the week. Expecting helper to work 5 hours a day and then 4 hours on weekend days with one full day off. Total of around 30 hours a week.

Must love a ranch lifestyle and obviously must be passionate about horses and a natural horsemanship training methodology. Horses will trust us and cooperate when we give them the respect they deserve.

Go with the flow personality with a teamwork mentality will work best with our program and the guys....a sense of humor always preferable over those without.

This need is more during the spring to fall months as not as much to do in winter months when rain makes it more difficult to work with the youngsters. Would like at least a month commitment for any potential volunteer. After a week, may evaluate if working for both parties to continue the arrangement.

The ranch manager can drive volunteer to nearby stores for food, supplies which are 5-10 minutes away. If one has access to own transportation, then free to come and go as long as work is preformed.

No heavy drinking and no smoking on property will be tolerated.

Prior work with horses a plus and those with training experience preferred!

Nearby attractions - San Francisco is 1 hour 15 min from ranch; Carmel/Monterey is 45 min from ranch; Santa Cruz/other beaches are 1 hour or less from ranch.
