Hello HelpXers!

We are two British expats, three horses, and two dogs all living on ten acres in the amazing Valley of the Moon. We live just outside the small town of Glen Ellen in the heart of Sonoma Wine Country and are looking to host fun, friendly, and interesting people from the world over.

We are still in the early stages of creating our sustainable homestead and there is seemingly infinite work to do. Projects include: working in the vegetable garden, planting trees, building fences, building rock walls etc. Our son has studied permaculture / traditional dryland water management and we are trying to adapt as many desert agriculture techniques as we can to 'drought proof' our property. This includes the digging of passive rainwater harvesting earthworks, rock mulches, planting of drought tolerant trees, etc. Anyone with an interest or experience in sustainable agriculture is most welcome!

What we are looking for are independent, self motivated non smokers (extreme fire danger) that would be willing to work four hours a day in exchange for meals, accommodation, laundry facilities and wifi. We are located within walking/biking distance of Glen Ellen where there is a market, saloon and a number of excellent restaurants as well as being near three excellent state parks, Jack London, Sugarloaf and Annadel. Other possible activities would be wine tasting, lake or river swimming, beach exploring, rock climbing or urban exploring in San Francisco or the East Bay.

The easiest way to travel in the USA is by car but Glen Ellen is accessible by bus and we are happy to pick you up at the bus station in Santa Rosa or Petaluma. If you are coming from San Francisco there are multiple options taking the ferry or bus and we would be happy to help you figure that out.

We are an openminded couple who love meeting new people from around the world. The ideal length of stay would be one week but everything is flexible. We are looking forward to hearing from you and hope to host you soon in Glen Ellen!
