**Please check our dates below before contacting us, thank you**

We won't be looking for volunteers until sometime in late winter 2020. If you want to offer your help please wait until we post the dates and details!

Murotto is a peaceful hamlet of 3 farmhouses in a chestnut forest above the small village of Baggio (600m, pop 100) in northern Tuscany. We are 10km from Pistoia, a beautiful medieval city half way between Florence and Lucca - named as Culture Capital of Italy 2017! Come by car or train+local bus, or we'll meet you at Pistoia train station. Murotto is off-road (except by 4wd) so there is a 10-min walk up a stone mule path to the houses. From Murotto you can walk 20 mins to up a waterfall for a cool plunge, or explore the vast Apennine wilderness full of boar, deer, foxes, porcupines and many other wild animals. Just below us, Baggio is a traditional village of foresters, farmers and skilled people with a strong community association that runs festivals and a fabulous pizzeria every Saturday during the summer.

We offer clean and comfortable bedrooms, wood-fired central heating, hot water, wifi (via radio signal), linens/towels, laundry, healthy & delicious meals (vegan, gluten-free, veggie, meat-eaters all welcome!) English, Italian, Spanish, French and German spoken depending who is here.

We are Jethro and Olivia (late-50s), our puppy Caleb and sometimes our three children (20s/30s), their partners, a grandchild and a grandmother. We are a fun, creative family of writers, artists, musicians, scientists committed to sustainable living, wellbeing, the environment and social justice. Oliva was born in Italy, she and Jethro are originally from the US, then lived in the UK for many years. Our family has been coming to Murotto for 3 generations and the two of us now live here.

In Murroto we care for ancient chestnut forests, orchards, an organic garden, chickens, bees, fields, walking trails, two farmhouses and several outbuildings/workshops, with lots of fun and inspiring things for Helpers to work on. We work about 5 hours per day (usually in the mornings) with a day off every 5 days.
