Sunny 15 acre block 1hr south of Auckland. We are using permaculture principles to develop a bio-dynamic market garden to feed ourselves, family, friends and customers. We grow according to the bio-intensive method. We provide training for schools and adults. You will be involved in planting vegetables, making compost, removing pest plants and shrubs, repairing fences, feeding chickens and other general farm work. We have 2 friendly jack russell dogs. We overlook the Glenbrook vintage steam railway and the black sand surfing beach we swim at regularly after work in summer is only 12km away. We work a minimum of 6 hours a day for 5 days. This means you have 2 days a week to go exploring. Non-smokers only.Check out web links above for an overview of the place and for an idea of what we are doing and what woofers experience.

You will have the opportunity to:

- learn first-hand about organic, bio-intensive, and biodynamic growing techniques
- experience life on a permaculture farm in the countryside
- care for our poultry
- learn about rural life in our country

We work closely with local schools and in term time we host a class of horticulture students every week.
Depending on how long you stay you can learn other farm related tasks: forestry, fencing, pasture management, waterway rehabilitation, cattle, etc.

We are happy to train you in how to start and run your own bio-intensive market garden and explain the permaculture design aspects we have applied in the design of our farm. Check out for the things you can learn with us

We are looking for committed volunteers who are genuinely interested in what we do and why we do it. Organic farming is labour intensive and we expect you to finish a job and not stop because you have done your hours for the day.

While on our farm you will stay as part of our family and share in the preparation and cooking of food and cleaning up afterwards. We really like it if we can take turns in cooking. We try to live as sustainably as possible and eat the vegetables and meat from the farm.

We eat mainly the meat, vegetables, and eggs produced on the farm. If you diet excludes meat thats fine but if it also excludes eggs and dairy i.e. vegan, then its best you look elsewhere - sorry.

What should I wear?

It (usually) rains in Auckland! You will need comfortable wet weather gear and working shoes (hiking boots are fine), you will also need strong gumboots - they cost around NZ$30 if you want to wait and buy them here, or you can use one of the spare pairs we have.

You will need working clothes, typically working shorts, a tee shirt, warm pullover, and strong leather gloves. Dungarees are a good choice, overalls are okay but can rub. You will also need sunblock SPF 50+ and a wide brimmed sunhat as the sun is very harsh, and a drink bottle to keep you hydrated.
