We are Russell and Yvonne. We both work full time, Russell owns a bike shop and runs mountain bike tours, I am a painter and gardener.
We own a little perma-culture based farm on which we try to be as self-sufficient as possible.
Exciting new projects:
building a new woodshed, chicken-raising shed and feed shed.
Cutting firewood, planting trees, raising chicks, growing vegetables.
From August 2019.
Our current helper is starting on a new adventure of her own after being with us for eight months on our farm. She will be greatly missed. This opens an opportunity for the right person to come on our farm either as share farming or as med-long term helper.
We are looking for ongoing help, 1-2 weekends per month and otherwise mostly Tuesday-Saturday
To stay at our farm you need a car as there is no public transport.
We are a big happy family and everyone pitches in to keep the farm going, keep projects on track and most importantly keep all the animals happy and healthy. It's a really rewarding experience and the animals pay it back in cuddles ;-)
Mia Mia is only 1 hrs drive from Melbourne. Our property is situated in central Victoria, the house is on a plateau overlooking a picturesque valley with views of Mt Alexander. There are beautiful big gum trees perfect to spend a lazy afternoon in the shade. There is typical central farmland with big boulders surrounding this peaceful little property. There is lots of wildlife to see and dirt roads for lovely bike rides. There are mountain bike parks located nearby and the option of hiring bikes.
Lake Eppalock which is famous for water sports is only a 10 minute drive.
There is also a cute blue-stone pub 5 minutes drive from our place as well as a petrol station, general store and a café and art gallery. The next towns (with proper supermarket & shops) are 15 and 25 minutes drive so you will need your own car to get around. This is also a wine growing area with lots of little wineries and breweries nearby.
On the farm are 3 dogs, 3 puppies, 3 cats, a horse, chooks (50 or so) with more hatching; sheep & pigs, so being comfortable around animals and an animal lover is really important :).
Skills in building industry & experience on organic farms are welcomed but not necessary, being able to work independently is important.
Jobs on the farm:
feed animals, build garden beds, plant veggies, watering the garden, fencing, help with the cooking and household chows, general farm work, gardening.
is in the 3 bedroom house, with a lovely wood fire which keeps the house warm and cozy. We are happy to cater for vegetarian and GF. We do grow some of our own meat on the farm and have fresh veggies and fruit from the garden all year round.
We need help on weekends and during the week, so being available on some weekends is important.
If that sounds interesting to you we would love to hear from you.
Until then safe travels!
