Hello. I run the Detroit International House. I host travelers and run programs there. I need the following help:
-house maintenance chores (painting, cleaning, various types of renovation)
-marketing help (i.e. Facebook, social media help)
-English teachers (mostly summertime)
Detroit is undergoing a renaissance, come and explore it. There are lots of cool things to do here. The house is on several bus lines to many attractions and I can provide guidance on how to get around the city and can also provide rides for you periodically.
The house is less than 15 minutes away from many attractions:
Detroit Institute of Arts
Detroit Historical Museum
Museum of Contemporary Art
The world famous Heidelberg Project
Historic Indian Village
A bit further afield, but less than 30 minutes is Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village, which are very cool places also.
Looking for fun things to do? Check out the weekly Slow Roll in Detroit, a real cool biking experience through the streets of Detroit. I have bikes. There is also the famous Dequindre Cut for biking or rollerblading and popular Eastern Market area on Saturdays, again less than 15 minutes away.
Music festivals abound in the summer downtown. Movement Festival (techno) and Jazz Festival are really popular events, less than 15 minutes away.
Need library access? Again its nearby and I will let you use my library card.
Like to travel light? Like deals? I know some awesome thrift stores where you can get clothing and other items for dirt cheap.
Want to explore other parts of the country? How about a quick (1 1/2 hour) plane ride to New York City for the weekend? I fly there frequently because its so easy and cheap. I get flights on Spirit Airlines for less than $100, roundtrip. And I have lots of information on New York City, guidebooks, maps, etc, and can provide much guidance on what to do there and the ins and outs of getting around.
The house is also 15 minutes to the tunnel to Canada (you will be in Windsor, which also has interesting things to do. ) We are a five hour train ride to both Toronto and Chicago.
