Our farm has been farmed organically for the last 50 years. The farm has a reputation for wonderful water and soil, and one of the best “always warm” locations on the Orcas Island. We bought this farm in March of 2015. The previous owners took loving care of the land and trees, but were quite elderly and there has been a lot of deferred maintenance to do. The farm is located near the ferry landing in Orcas, WA. At 78 acres, The farm is a mix of 23+ beautiful agricultural acres, with the remainder in lovely forested hillsides. The farm has a conservation easement with the San Juan County Land Bank.

We have 57 fruit and nut trees, they are mostly a mix of heirloom pears and apples, as well as figs and hazelnuts, there are 26 grape vines, two greenhouses, a historic fruit barn, two ponds, and a large market garden. We plan on expanding the vegetable garden area, and having an active farm stand this season. We have chickens, ducks, and heritage Mangalitsa pigs, and are considering adding sheep.

Work: We require about 30 hours of work each week - 6 shifts of 5 hours per shift in exchange for room and board.
Board consists of a camping space in our Farm Camp are.
Meals: We will provide food for meals from the farm that are cooked in the Farm Camp area. We plan to meet up and eat a group dinner a few times a week in the main house.

Volunteers will be expected to help in several areas: prepping, growing, planting, weeding, watering and harvesting vegetables for the market garden and farm stand. Seasonally helping in the orchard, as well as the year round care of the livestock.

Other jobs might include helping to build an outdoor kitchen, and volunteer farm camp area, working on building farm structures, cleaning out and restoring some outbuildings. We plan to remove the old dilapidated farm house and reclaim as many viable recycled materials from the deconstruction as possible. Volunteers will help with blackberry, scotch broom, and noxious weed removal, firewood cutting and stacking, as well as pond, trail and road maintenance etc. You will be expected to work five hours a day, six days a week, in exchange for camping accommodation, and food. At some points we would love some extra help, if there is a delivery due, or a deadline to meet!

We look forward to meeting you!
