Aloha, Come get a completely off grid living experience! Working towards a self sustainable mostly closed cycle organic farm/homestead/temple. Located in the mountainous Native Ohia rain-forest of Upper Puna approximately seven miles from the Volcano National Park. Annual free pass is available for one vehicle to enter the park. This is a completely tobacco smoke free environment, please do not smoke, vape, or use illegal drugs during your stay, on site or otherwise. There is a cat, Geniemax, on the premises, therefore i ask that no animals accompany you on your stay.

Please bring most of your own food. Rice, fruits, and veggies are available from the gardens/ greenhouse. A shared propane burner and cookware is available for use. Currently acquiring Tilapia fish which. The nearest food store is located at the Highway, approximately five miles away. Intermittently I will be shopping for my monthly Supplies, and can also periodically pick up food, and other supplies/ provide rides when heading to town.

Limited unheated gravity fed water is available for showering washing hands, dishes and hand washing laundry, and a large pot of water can be heated for a warm/ hot cup shower. The nearest laundromats are approximately seven to twelve miles away from the bus stop at the highway, which is approximately five miles away. Conserving water is essential, despite this being a rain-forest. There is a 250 gallon catchment system, but during seasonal low rainfall water shortage can occur. Treated spring water will be provided from the county drinking water fill locations, please bring own canteen, or labeled cup. If you require pure untreated drinking water, please bring your own. The county spring water is very good and only mildly treated.

Natural biodegradable castle soap is available for washing dishes/hands/laundry/showering, though please bring your own Eco friendly shampoo's and conditioners. There are no flushing toilets on the grounds, a composting toilet is used. During use the lid is removed and replaced with a toilet seat. Once business is completed a handful, or two of cedar shavings are placed in the bucket. The bucket lid is then replaced to keep insects and other animals out. Periodically the composting toilet bucket is emptied as a fertilizer on banana trees and other long term tree crops. Urination can be done on various trees and other vegetation, or collected in a vessel to be used on selected plants. I encourage women to use moon or diva cups and utilized as a fertilizer, otherwise I request that 100% biodegradable tampons/pads be used which will decompose and can therefore be placed in the composting toilet.

I have a 14' diameter tarp covered Tee Pee which will fit two very comfortably, gravel floor with mat, two sleeping bags are available, or a futon frame and foam mattress which will fit one, or two very cozily. Availability depends on number of helpers) Also accommodation can be made in the "Tarp Shed" space, my initial camp when first establishing here. These dwellings are maintained by me and I will purchase (within reason) tarps/ other materials as needed to ensure a dry/ comfortable living space when staying in these quarters. Other open spaces are available for camping if you bring your own waterproof tent. Additional tarps/ ropes are recommended in these sites to keep your living space dry and more comfortable. Please bring/purchase your own additional tarps/ ropes/ materials when staying in the open camp sites. Warm clothing/ sleepwear is recommended, as nights can be cool at this elevation.

I have small portable solar lighting systems for use during your stay, some of which have limited cell phone charging ability, and some only provide lighting. Suggested that phones be charged on these systems during daylight hours to conserve power for lighting and following days use especially during heavy overcast weather as the daily battery charge is reduced on these days. Computers/ tablets are not chargeable on these devices and internet is not available on site, though there are WiFi locations available with power in neighboring towns, located seven- twelve miles from the local bus system approximately five miles from the grounds.

My current need is greenhouse and grounds maintenance, weeding, planting, transplanting fruits and vegetables, preparing beds, gathering soil for potting, regular watering, invasive species removal, maintenance/ improvement of paths and driveway, feeding fish and tending ponds as well as hand clearing selected areas for future projects. Some other jobs doing occasional/minor construction and finish work/ painting on the existing structures and fabrication of additional structures/ Tee Pee's. Some limited help with cooking, washing dishes, and hand laundry may be requested from time to time, but is not required. I am asking for a minimum of seven hours a week for each person staying, and more is always welcome as you feel apt to offer, as there is much to do. Also I am open to suggestions if you have any ideas for projects/improvements. In addition some small tasks may be asked daily, if you plan on being on the grounds on a regular basis during your stay, otherwise your minimum hourly trade can be done as you desire, so long as you complete your seven hours weekly. I would prefer minimal stays of one - two weeks, with a vacancy duration of one week minimum before returning. Stay duration can be adjusted/canceled at any time by you or me with reasonable notice to find new lodging. Longer stays may be permited under certain circumstances if it flows. Currently no long term/permanent stays accepted, but open to possibilities. And perhaps eventual temporary care taking positions during my travel vacancies.

I am currently working beyond full time in an attempt to purchase the adjacent native forested lot in order to protect it from potential bulldozing/ development, as well as to retain the beauty and serenity of this location, and the forest, therefore as of now I will only be on site for varying short periods of time sometimes early morning and evenings during the week and on varying schedules on the weekends. Also I will currently not be staying on the premises at night as I am watching the Job site at work while my boss is away. I ask that we maintain quiet hours from around eight o'clock in the evening to eight o'clock in the morning, though quiet activity before and after these hours is acceptable. If you are not comfortable working/ being alone for extended periods of time in a semi isolated location I recommend coming as a couple, or with a close friend, or reconsidering this help location. There are friendly neighbors within walking distance which can be heard from the camp and commons area.

For the most part you are responsible for your own transportation, but pickup from the airport may be available depending on arrival time, and rides towards the front of the subdivision may be available from time to time, from there it is a relatively short distance to the bus stop, and store. Hitching a ride to the bus, or store from neighbors heading out is also a potential. Parking is available at the front of the property if you choose to rent a vehicle. You are also completely responsible for yourself during your entire stay, and I accept no liability, or responsibility for any damage, loss, or theft of vehicles, or personal items, nor personal injury, or death or any other incidents that may occur during your stay here. Please be prepared to sign a waiver of liability upon arrival for any of the unlikely events mentioned above. Please do not leave any personal items of value here when you venture out of the forest. Please be ready to clean up after yourself both during your stay, and prior to leaving. Please take all of this information into account before considering a stay. Please inform me of any special needs you may have when applying.

I look forward to hearing from you, and hopefully meeting you and having you stay here at Waldswarf Temple, Shaman's Retreat.

Kind regards, Basil
