Since 6 years I live in a Finca in a natural park in Andalusie/ Costa del Sol and in The Netherlands. I really enjoy the place because of its pure nature and silence.
The house is situated a 1,5 hour drive from Malaga airport. A drive from the house to the nearest village, Competa is about 20 min and its a 1 hour walk. It’s a beautiful multi-cultural mountain village. And it takes a 40 min drive to the coastal side. (Nerja/Torrox/Algarobbo)
I'm a Dutch artist, curator, organiser and running a gallery in the village. I'm an active person, organizing art-events and i'm accompanied by other creative, kind people, musicians and so on. I travel regularly for my exhibitions abroad. Since Competa has 50% villagers from outside Spain, the gallery is visited by various people. Also quite some artists do live in or near Competa.
I love to meet people from other countries. Important in life for me is to keep balanced as far as possible and to keep inspired. In this way I'm also able to maybe inspire others.
I do have 2 cats and 1 dog. They enjoy the natural park, but do love company as well. And my partner lives at another beautiful place near Competa.
For a volunteer at my place there are in fact different jobs/ possibilities.
1) Looking for a graphic designer who can help me designing a catalogue and leaflets.
2) It would be nice if somebody can help me to update my websites/ and add my art works on the online galleries. Somebody handy with a computer could maybe help me with that.
2) For the long term: I would love to find somebody who could help me in the gallery with many different tasks….
I'm first of all artist, so would like to spend more time on my main profession...I do run the gallery now for 5,5 years and it would be great to meet a skilled person who would like to run a gallery together with me.
(these tasks are maybe for long term, but can also be done by people if they stay a shorter time at mine)
Tasks: keeping the gallery open weekly, assisting clients, taking care for the gallery space, hanging exhibitions, cleaning up, helping with publicity, designing posters or ads, meeting artists, doing online marketing, maintaining the gallery website/ fb page, helping with organising art events, translating texts. etc. It is possible to earn money as well when we book results with online promotion/ publicity and doing sells via the web and in the gallery.
Preferably a woman or man who is familiar with art/ culture/ marketing/ selling art. Languages: English and would be nice of that person can also speak Spanish.
Things to do in and around the house:
maintenance jobs: painting iron gates, weeding, cutting wood, paint jobs, pruning, moving stuff, building a veranda, maintaining the pool, watering the plants etc.
But also: cooking, cleaning, making bedrooms ready for guests, sewing pillow covers...taking care of the pets, walks with the dog, house/ pet sitting.
On the terrain there is a wooden cabin in which 1 or 2 volunteers can stay (if there are no other guests). It has a bedroom, living room, kitchen as well, and a nice balcony with great views. In the stone house there are rooms with private bathrooms. Also possible to be used by volunteers. Would be easiest if the volunteer can drive a car and is not afraid of rough-track. (25 min to the village)
As you read help is welcome and would be good anytime from now on.
For the maintenance jobs looking for a handymen or woman, who can drive a car as well.
Until now I have hosted 10 or more helpx people and I really like this concept. It is nice to feel supported to get the things done, but also nice to meet people from different cultures and countries and to sometimes find new friendships.
It's clear I could welcome some help! ;-)
A skype or chat on fb is also possible to 'meet' each other.
Best regards, groetjes, Lieuwke
