It’s important to us that before you arrive you know what we are about. We aim at making volunteering a positive experience for everyone.

Our diet is basically, but not strictly, vegetarian, with both raw and cooked food, fruit, vegetables, wild greens, seeds, mushrooms, beans, rice, pasta and eggs. Many of the vegetables are produced organically in our own garden.
Breakfast is usually soaked oats, fruit, seeds, yogurt and honey.
We eat fermented food (mostly sauerkraut and miso) produced by us. You can learn how to do it with us.
We have black, green and herbal tea and if you want you can bring and make your own coffee.

Working times can be flexible and are usually determined by the weather and what needs to be done. Individual preferences are taken into consideration. Sometimes work may get a bit intense, but usually not.
We handle work in a shared and rotating way, so nobody is left with repetitive tasks.
Work may include cutting firewood, cleaning and maintaining paths, clearing brambles and weeds, farming, occasional wood construction.

Practical Information

Silence is one of Regada’s most precious assets. We hope everybody who visits us appreciate and respect it.

Due to being in an area vulnerable to forest fires, candles, barbecues or any fire making are strictly prohibited as the fire risk is very high here!

Your passage through Regada should leave no traces. Everything should be as it was prior to your arrival.

Please bring bio-degradable soaps and shampoos. Otherwise the land and water will be poisoned. If you cannot find these or buy them before you come let us know ahead of time. We will be happy to sell you a bit to cover your stay.

Flashlights/ torches are essential items. Please bring your own.

What else…

Because we are interested in living a conscious holistic life we have a few rules to support this during your stay:

No drugs.
No drinking (other than an occasional glass of wine with a meal).
No noise and no music (we love listening to Nothing).
No violent communication.
We live in a beautiful area.
Volunteers can do great walks in nature. Nearby we have the beautiful waterfalls of “Fraga da Pena”, the old forest of “Mata da Margaraça”, breathtaking vistas right here in Esculca, many river beaches along Rio Alva, all within 10 minutes by car. There’s no bus from here in August, but car rides can be arranged or shared.

We accept volunteers only from May to September.
