For obvious reasons, I am not hosting anyone right now. If you are looking to chat to make plans for the future or would just like to organise a weekly call to practice your conversational English or about life then happy to help in any way I can during this time - drop me a message. thanks

Looking for

A person who seeks a true cultural exchange in England for a few months or more. Send me a message with your details if you are interested and we'll arrange to have a chat about your plans.

About Me

Hello! How are you? My name is Andy and I've been hosting people for years now both with Helpx and other organisations. I appreciate spending my time with people like me who want to learn more about this strange and wonderful planet we all occupy. I get on with people who care about others and want to learn more about themselves. I have learnt a lot from my time hosting people and my journey continues.

I am a well-educated person and believe that life is a continual learning experience, I like listening to the music of most genres, watching a good film and watching documentaries. I am interested in matters of environmental sustainability, climate change, current affairs, psychology, history, politics, philosophy and technology. I have a good sense of humour, I like to share a joke and tell a story. I like to laugh and of course to have as much fun as life allows me.

I live here with my partner Joe, he is a good person and is also an experienced traveller. We are not really traditional people and we accept people from any background who are not ignorant or prejudice :-) If you have any questions, then please just ask directly as I am always available to answer any clearly.

I prefer honest, loyal, independent and free-thinking people, who are coming here for true cultural exchange and to meet new people and make new friends. If you haven't done this before, I know it is a big deal as I travelled and lived abroad myself in the past.

Accommodation and Food?

We eat fresh food every day. We always try fresh, tasty and healthy food from good sources but occasionally on a lazy day we'll have a pizza or something like this :-)

Joe is a Vegetarian and he is the main chef in the house so he cooks most of our main evening meals. I am a flexitarian and eat meat a couple of times a week. Our former guests normally eat with us and meals are provided as part of your stay here. You can help yourself to breakfast and lunch.

We live in a small place in a very diverse city which is also a short drive away from a national park (Peak District) in the English countryside, so we have the best of both worlds. The people we host normally sleep in a single fold out memory foam bed in a shared area of our home and bedding is provided. It's a very communal atmosphere, friendly, safe and comfortable.

Help Needed?

I will be the person you spend the most time with and it will be great for you if you are the type of person who wants to immerse yourself into real life in another country.

There are some daily household tasks to do. These are mostly tasks that involve some cleaning, washing pans and some general tasks.

If you are interested in technology, software or computers then you might find my business interesting as well.

I have a slight disability caused by a long term medical condition so I always welcome any assistance to help me with my tasks and in keeping active.

There will also be plenty of opportunities for you to see things for yourself and spend time alone if you need it.

What else?

We are based in the North of England, in the city of Sheffield. There are easy transport links to London and all major UK cities from here as well.

We live 10 minutesí walk outside of the city centre in an interesting area full of diverse communities, parks, students and families. The weather here can be variable like most places in the UK.

Sheffield is a city in the English county of South Yorkshire. The nearby countryside is part of Peak District National Park, characterised by moorland and rocky ridges.

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities?

This may be an opportunity for someone who is planning to come to the UK soon for cultural exchange, coming here to learn more about themselves or are on their own journey of discovery. You may already be in the UK looking for your next host or want a change from your current situation. If you are coming here to also improve your English then there will be plenty of opportunities to do this with us during your stay here.

Please send me a message if you have any questions. Thanks for reading.
