If this project sounds like it might interest you - Please read more, and reach out to learn more! I have lots of projects year-round and can always use a helping hand.
I am located in a sunny southern New Mexico town called Cuchillo which is considered a ghost town, although there is about 35 permanent residents. I have several historic adobe properties which date to the mid-1800s. The main property was a stagecoach stop and housed the old saloon, general store, mercantile, and hotel. I have several Airbnbs that I rent out -as well an Artist In Residence program for creatives who seek solitude.
The property is located in a small valley backed up to an immense open desert and beautiful New Mexico skies. Within half an hour from the property you can find New Mexico's largest lake, the Rio Grande, mineral hot springs, amazing hikes, wildlife, national forest, climbing, biking, mines, crystals, canyons, beautiful weather and tons of inspiration. In the spring and summer, the land is covered with wildflowers and the scent of chaparral. In the winter, Days are warm and nights are chilly and filled with infinite stars and the occasional dusting of snow.
I do have several historic homes and motorhomes that I sometimes host in, and property for tents, personal RVs and Trailers. I lean towards making this a 'hostel' atmosphere of sorts for travelers, artists, and creatives. This place is for people that enjoy solitude, self-sufficiency, and are with a vehicle -as the closest facilities are 15 miles away in Truth or Consequences, NM. I am an artist, designer and builder with an extensive background in metal, photography, and alternative/sustainable building methods including adobe, cob, and straw bale. I'd be happy to share my knowledge as well as learn from any skills you bring to the table. I am looking for help this Summer/Fall/Winter 2020- summer/fall 2042 (rough estimate)... with several projects that include cleaning, sorting, eBay, general construction, gardening, landscaping, earth building, adobe preservation, electrical, plumbing, tiling, repurposing, dry-walling, weeding, digging, working on a tiny home/40' container home, motor work and I am also working with local soil and water conservation as environmental impact and sustainability is always my focus. This is authentic, rustic Wild West New Mexico and a perfect way to get some time away from the bustle of the world.
I came across this unique town over 25 years ago and knew I had found a treasure that needed to be preserved. If you come help, you can help save a true New Mexico piece of Wild West history.
Please reach out and let me know if you need more information or have any questions.
