We have a five acre farm that has been in the family for 70 years, with one long-term HelpX volunteer already in residence. In addition to the main house, there are two terradomes (hobbit houses), a carpentry shop, greenhouse, two ponds, two meadows, 50 species of trees, a stream, and three relaxed friendly dogs.
For two hours of work a day, or 14 hours per week, you would be receiving a room, access to three shared full bathrooms, wifi, use of our beautiful land! as well as our kitchen.
You'll have to supply your food.
We can not afford to feed you, which is why the hours expected are so low. There are within easy walking distance of us grocery stores, coffee shops, pharmacies, gym, specialty shops, etc. If you don't have a vehicle there is a busing system that runs all over town.
All people (ethnicities, gender identities, belief systems) are welcome, as well as drama-free couples. We ask, since this is our home and our business, that you conduct yourself with respect for both. We ask no smoking near our entrances, no hard drugs or overt drinking and although we are 420 friendly, we live in a conservative neighborhood, so we ask for discretion ;)
Louisville is a premiere spot for music, rated top tier by National Geographic for restaurants, home of the Derby, Great Lebowsky Festival, hot air balloon and boat races, sporting events, the most haunted house in the U.S.(Waverly), the largest collection of Victorian mansions in the U.S.,oldest working paddle boat, and hey, the world's largest baseball bat! We have Frederick Law Olmsted parks, a beautiful river, great events, a huge music scene and a friendly bohemian community just ten minutes away.
Your safety is important to us and we will consider it in all tasks. We are compassionate, and want you to be happy. This though is a farm; if you hurt yourself/get sick, we are not responsible for your treatments, so come with insurance, and knowing your limitations. Please let us know any conditions for which you may need special consideration.
There is a place for every volunteer, we need:
Green house maintenance
Sewing machine instruction
Whatever you do, we can find tasks and are happy to learn from you! Hope you drop in.
