Hobby Goat Farm/Warmshowers Host in Montana Paradise. We currently have help for this winter and spring and cannot accomodate anymore help. We will be hosting in the summer. We have recently purchased a log cabin we are restoring.

SKILLS to learn or USE: constuction, lumber milling, meat and dairy goat husbandry, (goats and chickens), log splitter, stacking firewood, various yard and farm work, misc maintenance in and out of the house. You just need to be a willing helper who doesn`t mind working outside. Your assistance will be used to help with farm chores, landscaping, gardening, etc and some domestic assistance in the house.

You will be asked to show your passport or US ID for us to photo copy for safety purposes only.

OUR WEATHER: Obviously, in winter months it`s cold in Montana. (FYI: Our area in Montana has milder winter weather in comparison to the rest of Montana. We are shielded from harsh wind chills by mountain ranges on both sides.) Winter helpers would need to be willing to help feed the animals in the barn and carry firewood into the house. And some cutting of firewood as well as snow clearing on an atv - sit and ride! The rest of the work would predominantly be in the house or garage.

HOUSING: You will be housed in one of our rooms during the cold months We have two small, clean, modified camper trailers with a bed with new comfy mattress parked a long side the creek and along the house deck which will be used ONLY in warm months.

FOOD: You will be fed WELL. We are not vegetarians but can accomodate one. Our diet includes lots of venison and goat meats, home raised chicken, all homemade bread, farm fresh eggs and vegetables from our garden. We love dried fruits and an abundance of nuts. Phil makes his own KILLER baby back rib sauce. We have meticulously processed goat`s milk. People have said it`s the best they have ever tasted. We make cheese and ice cream with it also. You`d never know it`s not made from cow`s milk, seriously!

OUR FARM/LOCATION: We have a small acreage with a herd of dairy goats, chickens, garden and are milling logs on the adjacent the Bitterroot National Forest to build outbuildings. We are located in a narrow canyon in the Bitterroot Mts with a beautiful creek running through the property, just off the back deck, one-half mile from it`s entrance to the East Fork of the Bitterroot River where there is world-class fly fishing and breath-taking photography. Our narrow canyon sustained a forest fire in yr 2000. There is still evidence of it behind our home and across the road. We are clearing land, landscaping, caring for our animals, gardening, moving and stacking firewood, staining pole fences, constructing a few more small outbuildings.

WHAT ELSE: We host many people in the summer months such as cyclists on the TransAm cycling route as well as vacationers and travelers. We are halfway between Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks. Helpers will have an opportuntiy to meet people from all over the world in the busy months. We host skiers in the winter and spring months.

OPPORTUNITIES: We live in a virtual outdoor, high mountain paradise with lots of opportunities for hiking, rock wall climbing, world class fly fishing, camping, birding and wildlife observation. We are located just eighteen miles from a fantastic ski resort (Lost Trail Powder Mountain) and worldclass cross country ski groomed trail system (Chief Joseph Cross Country Ski Trails). We have two quads and will see that you get a great ride to the top of our mountain.

NEAREST AIRPORT: Missoula, MT. We can provide transportation to and from airport or bus station if needed but only if helper is committed to at least two weeks. We will not do that for short stays. Please research the cost of transportation to our area. Many potential visitors to Montana are not familiar with the size of our country and cost of travel to more remote areas. Before requesting to come, check out cost of travel.

TELL US: Please, if you are interested in coming for a visit and contact us, specify the parameters of your availability and dates. That will be the first question I would have and it would save me having to ask that question. Please have a clear photo and adequate information about yourself. If you have no feedback from prior hosts, we will MAY require two references (contact phone number or email.)

MORE INFO ABOUT US: Do check out the three websites I`ve listed. The first is one of our two AIRBNB listings which will offer an abundance of photos of our home and area as well as reviews from our guests. You can link on to our second room on our profile. Our "Kiko Meat Goat Website is also listed.) The third Facebook site is one I`ve established JUST for HelpX guests with lots of information and photo about our volunteer opportunities. We cannot accomodate anyone traveling with a cat and most likely not a dog since we have a dog. That is open for discussion.
