Live the North American Dream at our Vintage Motel with many onsite activities on Ile d'Orleans, Quebec Province, Canada!

Hello, we are Francois (Canadian from Quebec) and Stephanie (from Germany), living on Ile d'Orleans, 15km / 9mi from Quebec City. Here, we operate a vintage motel with on-site, scooter and bike rental.

Our season 2018 is heading towards the end and we can't welcome any more volunteers this year.
It has been an amazing, exciting and succesfull season thanks to the many helping hands from France, Mexico, the U.S., Germany, Ireland, Canada, Brazil, the United Kingdom, Chile, Italy, New Zealand and Israel. Couples, single travellers and friends aged from 18 years to somewhere in their mid-fifties formed a family here at the motel, staying between 3 days up to 4 months, extending their stay and promising to come back next year - As entrepreneurs, as hosts and simply as caring people, we can't ask for more! Thank you all soooo very much!!!

We invite everybody interested in being part of our project to inquire for next year; we'll open May 2019.

The first 2 weeks of May will be dedicated to exterieur painting, deep cleaning and preparing the rooms and the bike shop. We'd like to host a group of helpers to be more efficient, so if you are a bunch of friends or multiple couples travelling, you are highly welcome to reach out! Volunteers with a certain autonomy would be fantastic: Ideally, you love to repair things.

2019 will be our 3rd year of welcoming volunteers and if you are an optimistic character, feeling comfortable sharing most of your time and space with your fellow volunteers, able to say "Hello" to our guests and communicate openly with us, whenever anything needs to be improved, we'd love you joining our team!

If you are pro-active and willing to support us without a lot of supervision, you are welcome to lend us a hand with:

*1) Housekeeping and maintenance
Cleaning bathrooms, making beds, vacuum and folding fresh laundry, starting from late morning until afternoon.
You should be focused and take care of details. You may also water the garden, cleaning our rental bikes and scooters.

*2) Evening Reception
Welcoming guests, selling rooms to walk ins, giving information about the area, cashing money, checking returning scooters in the afternoon / evening before closing all facilities for night.
Bilingualism in French and English is a must!
You should have an easy smile, how to dress and talk in public, so our guests feel welcome and comfortable. Ideally, you have a common sense for how to solve problems (make a TV working, opening up a folding bed ...)

Perfect combination with graphist's knowledge! We are always looking for helpers being able to create flyers, newsletters, logos etc. (on your own laptop)

We are the perfect internship if you plan to study tourism / business administration as we touch so many aspects of owning a small business, working with the public, housekeeping, renting sport equipment etc.

We'll be ble to give you references for university / future emplyments.

Please be aware that when here at a touristic property in Quebec, Canada it is not possible to have days off only when it's sunny or for all the helpers on site to have the same days off.

Up to 6 helpers at the same time, boys and girls together.
Sharing a loft with bunk beds, seating area inside and outsidem two small bathrooms, heating and excellent WiFi.
The place is simple, but spacious, functional and clean.

There is also a fully equipped kitchen with oven, stove and fridge, microwave, kettle and coffee maker.

Once a week, we'll provide basic food for free (bread, spreads, eggs, rice, noodles, potatoes, fruits and vegetables) You'll prepare your own meals - perfect for vegetarians or vegans :)
Sometimes, we do groceries for you, sometimes you'll get a budget and can buy whatever you want with it.
This covers for 3 meals a day, including your days off.
But as we do not eat together, you simply don't have access to the always-filled fridge of a family of five - please consider this in your travel budget and be prepared to spent from your own pocket on sweets, alcohol and extra meat.

We'll wash your clothes for you at our home.

Please do not apply, if you are an excessive smoker. All our premises are 100% non-smoking.

The Ile d'Orleans is 67 km / 50 mi of vineyards and farms, historical architecture and a creative art scene.
Amazing scenery, hiking paths in the forest and the St.Lawrence River for swimming or water sports!
There is a little theatre as well as several art galleries and some small museums.

We work in a wide network of local partners and can organise for free tastings and discounts on activities.

When our bikes are not rented, you can cycle around for free.
Same for the scooters, if you have driving experience on scooters or motorcycles.

Being an outdoor person, loving nature and the quiet, you'll adore our place!
The island is not a party place; you may spend your days off in Quebec City partying, though:

The next town, Quebec City, is 15 km / 9.5 mi away. There is a shuttle bus from the motel to down town.

Quebec City is just beautiful: European architecture, a filled agenda of events all year around, a lively foodies' scene and maple syrup all over ;)

From Montreal arrive to Quebec City Main Station GARE DU PALAIS by AmigoExpress (car sharing) or Orleans Express (bus).

From Quebec City Airport YQB take a taxi to Quebec City main station GARE DU PALAIS (fixed price of 38$).

From Quebec City Main Station GARE DU PALAIS, there is a public bus, called PLUmobile to our island ILE D'ORLEANS.
Please look up their schedule online; they only run Mon - Fri.
Once on the PLUmobile bus, tell the bus driver to let you get off the bus at the snackbar at the intersection of CHEMIN ROYAL AND ROUTE PREVOST, after having left the village of SAINTE PETRONILLE. You may walk uphill on ROUTE PREVOST, for some minutes until you see the motel on your right.

If arriving on weekends / holidays or with HUGE luggage: From From Quebec City Main Station GARE DU PALAIS, get on the public METROBUS 800, direction BEAUPORT until CHUTES DE MONTMORENCY (it's the last stop, you can't miss it ;)
Call us, when you arrived and we'll pick you up at the McDonald's across the street.
