We have a beautiful farm overlooking Kootenay Lake and the Purcell Mountains in the Kootenay area of south-eastern B.C. We are a husband and wife team who raise horses, grow hay, have a small orchard with mainly apple trees and some pears, plums, cherries, and peaches. we want to grow some of our food and are starting a large vegetable garden plus some berry bushes.

There is always help needed to take care of the horses. Other typical projects involve maintaining the fences, gardening, and painting. Depending on the season we may also be harvesting fruit and preserving it. If you are interested in 'food security' you can gain experience with us.

For 2018 we are also looking for CARPENTRY SKILLS and INTERIOR HOUSE PAINTING SKILLS, need to lay new flooring, reno bathroom and some TILE WORK. We want to repurpose some windows and BUILD a GREENHOUSE to extend the growing season!

We enjoy meeting people from around the world and making new friends. English is our first language, so if you want to practice your English we would be happy to help you.

If you love horses and being outdoors, you will enjoy staying with us. Our horses are trained for Western style riding using natural horsemanship methods. We also have two dogs and a number of 'barn kittens'.

During your non-working time, there is much to explore in our area. There are many community events and opportunities to meet the local people. We have bicycles you can borrow for travelling short distances. There is very inexpensive government bus service to the nearby city of Nelson (45 minutes) and other local attractions such as Hot Springs, beaches, and fishing areas.

Accommodation with a million-dollar view! Your bedroom will be in the main farmhouse - our farmhouse is a restored log home built in 1941-1942 and staying here would be an authentic 'Canadian experience'.

All meals are eaten together with us as a family. We have internet access, television, and a wood burning fireplace in the living room.

Non-smokers only please due to the risk of fires and the fire department consists of neighbours who volunteer to help. Absolutely no drug us.
